out of state registration

Hey `everyone,
I just got a crashpad in Houston, but I live in Orlando. I am thinking about buying a cheap car and bringing it over so that I can get to and from the airport. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about registering it, since I am still going to be living in Orlando and still having a car here. I researched lots of stuff and called the DMV (not very helpful in answering questions!) I just wondered what other people in this situation are doing?....Thank you in advance

You might want to ask DMV or a Florida resident what the heck is up with that "environmental impact fee". It's basically a tax to keep YOU from bringing YOUR car into FLORIDA.

Check that delio out hommie...you might be better off buying your junker in FLA!

I was there for 9 months because of school, but because I was registered out of state and an out of state resident, they couldn't nail me with that fee.

Did you try a www.google.com search for "DMV Florida"? Go to their webpage, look at FAQ or vehicle registration sections on the site...it should answer your question.

Is there any state that doesn't require proof of insurance to register a car?

They did away with the impact fee a few years ago, but I'm buying this $500 car here in Florida and plan to take it over to Texas. Just wondering if I can register it here and not in TX. The TX DMV said I need to get it inspected (they said min. $30-$40) and then pay $177 to register it there.

you can probably do that, the only problem might occur if you ever get in an accident... your insurance company might deny coverage because they thought the car was registered, insured, and located in FL.. meaning your insurance rate was based somewhat on the zipcode you provided them when you got insurance -- and that the car was based out of state.

in an accident they will reduce the payout by the amount under payed on the insurance premium for the life of the coverrage. Ex: if you save $500 a year for 3 years you would get $1500 less on the claim vavso
