does anyone know why ORD has been going on flow control everyday for the past 2 weeks??

Our Ops computer says its due to wind/runway configurations. But then if you look at the ORD METAR the wind is not even strong...

I know that ORD is busy, but its only happened in the last 2 weeks that everyone of our flights takes a FC delay and we are averaging at least one "United Requested" cancelation, per day.

Are the ORD controllers striking or trying to make a point??

anybody in the know???

ORD irregular ops

For some good reading and best answer possible, get it straight from the source:

Midwest Tactical Operations - http://att5.faa.gov

Typically arrivals at ORD are to two runways, occasionally a third runway may be used and it is termed the TRIP runway.

Standard arrival rate at 80/hr and 100/hr with TRIP.

So if the arrival demand is above 80/hr and due to wind TRIP can not be used, you WILL see a 'flow' program. ORD is in irregular operations 48% of the time!

As far as weather/wind, the last 10 reports up to current:

KORD 020256Z 29008KT 10SM CLR M01/M12 A3046
KORD 020156Z 29010KT 10SM FEW250 01/M12 A3044
KORD 020056Z 29008KT 10SM FEW250 01/M12 A3042
KORD 012356Z 28011KT 10SM FEW250 02/M12 A3040
KORD 012256Z 28011KT 10SM FEW250 03/M11 A3039
KORD 012156Z 28015G23KT 10SM FEW250 04/M12 A3037
KORD 012056Z 29018G24KT 10SM FEW250 04/M12 A3034
KORD 011956Z 28016G24KT 10SM FEW250 05/M10 A3033
KORD 011856Z 28020G28KT 10SM FEW250 05/M11 A3033
KORD 011756Z 29020G26KT 10SM SCT250 04/M09 A3033

So as you can see, wind - even as reported in the past ten METARs - can play a big part in arrival rates.

well i know that today was not a good example to use. its windy all over. but if you look on average for the last 2 weeks, the wx hasnt been that crappy.

I probably has something to do with AA adding alot of flying in ORD to make up for the STL flying they dropped.

That totally explains it - it's got nothing to do with arrival rates it's taxiway congestion!!

Just wondering if AA have a special class on how to not listen on the radio and to taxi aircraft at an unbelievably slow (some would say impossible) speed :D :D

I think they also teach a class on how to drag ass onto the runway, I can't tell you how many go arounds i've because some AA plane took too long to get rollin'

The 3 most heard calls on ORD ground:

1. United stop your bitching.
2. American, pick it up!
3. Mexicana, STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL.
