I posted this on the general board..I moved it over here cuz i would probably get more responses.

I plan on entering the aviation industry a year from now. I figure I should have all the ratings I need to become a flight instructor. Right now I am finishing up at LewisU. (Chicago area)I have completed all my classes however I need to get commercial (which I am half way threw) and multi ratings. I can than choose to stay at lewis to get my CFI or go else where. I was thinking if I go else where I might have a better shot becoming a CFI at that FBO as soon as I finish the training. Do you think this is true? I would think they would hire me over someone else because they know me. Or should I stick at lewis and see if they hire me? I know they have a good program and maybe being an alumni might help out. I don't even know what the industry is like right now. Is it really hard to get a CFI job?

Did they have you take any spelling classes while getting that education, or do they have you wait until you're "threw?"

Your opportunity to instruct depends entirely on you. Very often your first instructing job will be the same place you obtain your instructor certification. Check with the school to see if they'll allow you to go to work once you obtain your CFI. If so, you're in.

Otherwise, you'll have to do some digging. Finding work as a flight instructor is always possible, but you may need to move to do it. Be prepared for that.

I must agree with the "almighty one", how could anyone disagree with him?:D You need to take what you can, plenty of higher time instructors out there that you may be in direct competition with should you skip the opportunity that you may have at Lewis. I am pretty sure that based on need/your ability that they would hire you as a CFI when the need is there "if" you get the ratings there. I know for a fact that some of the better known programs will offer you a position if you do the course at that particular school.. In a past lifetime I did my CFI/CFII with Airman Flight School in OK and was offered a position upon completion. I declined since I was 135 at the time and did not need that to build the hours/experience up... You may want to inquire with different school about this.

Thanks for the advice...and yeah spelling has always been a weak spot. I'm surprise I didn't catch that. I guess no one is perfect

I'm assuming you made a mistake here by choosing the plural form of this word. I believe you meant to say you will be an alumnus.

I may be mistaken, you may be intending to use the plural for you and your other personality - - if that's the case, please accept my apology (and condolences).

(Sorry, but since Avbug got the "threw," I just had to tackle that one.) :)

I can't believe you guys jumped on this person for his spelling. Although the spelling is weak and the Writer does recognize this, nobody has made mention of his grammar. While it is true nobody is perfect, take the time to preview your post before submitting them to catch any errors you may have made. I fully expect some will jump on me or my previous posts and point out errors I've made, I welcome this as I don't mind constructive criticism. Please note that I'am not picking on you and I don't mean to sound rude however, you are a college student and I'am willing to bet if I were to speak to you you wouldn't say I'm surprise.

Hey LewisU_pilot, I knew what you meant…And your right, no one is perfect. But I guess pointing out someone else’s minor and negligible mistakes makes you feel that you are.

.... I'am....
That one is just too easy. ;)

Some people complain about spelling, but even they do not understand the difference between "weather" and "whether." ;)

Message boards are inherently informal. They attract all kinds and promote rapid dialogue. Two aspects that often require tolerance.

There are a few words people do not use correctly. Weather and whether is one, then and than, I'm, I'am as I used incorrectly in my other post. I'm brain dead this morning otherwise I would have thought of more words. I would like to say that I make mistakes and I'm not perfect.

Look, the bottom line is that this is a message board for the AVIATION community, where questions, answers, opinions, and advice concerning AVIATION can be shared. There are message boards for just about everything now days though, and I’m sure that if you looked, you could find one for irrelevant know-it-all’s, for those of you so literarily gifted.

Awright, KV, then why don't you answer the original poster's question?

Truth is, he posted about wanting to embark upon an aviation career after he finishes up at college. His screen name invokes that college education. My reply to him addressed his question directly, in addition to commenting on the spelling. My commentary was intentional.

Now that you're done condemning the board and defending the poster, do you have an answer for his question?

Ha Ha...man everyone needs to calm down. I know my grammar isn't the best but come on this is a friggin message board. Who cares..Its not like I am going on a job interview or something. This is a place for people to bs back and forth about aviation not proper grammar usage. If I wanted that I would go to a grammar message board. I don't care that av bug corrected me. If he wants to take the time out of his day to do that than so be it. I don't hold any grudges
