When I was in Alaska my float instructor mentioned a movie where a guy was supposed to pretend to crash a beaver on floats, then they would cut to a model, but he really crashed and they left in the movie. Anyone know what I'm talking about, Thanks, Bill

"Mother Lode" with Charleton Heston. I about cried when I saw the crash. Was on a beautiful lake somewhere. Was a perfect landing and then just as it was coming off step it seemed like something grabbed the pontoon and yanked it over.

Charleton Heston and Kim Bassinger

That was a freakish accident but I think the movie was set and probably shot in British Colombia.

Nobody makes movies about Alaska in Alaska...you know, it's too far away and too expensive.

No roads.
Just crappy strips.
And lots of beautiful lakes.

A text book classic glassy water landing/crash. What NOT to do when landing on glassy water.

Your right about the crash. He was supposed to make a crappy landing for the movie, I don't think that's what they had in mind...........

Here's is the IMDB link.....

http://imdb.com/title/tt0084359/

And the quote...."The accident with the sea plane cartwheeling on landing, was not in the script - this is a real unplanned accident. The script simply asked for "engine problems at take off". The pilot was unhurt."

As I recall, the script was modified to include the accident. It's an "OK" movie, and probably worth the $.99 it will take to rent from Hollywood Video. Blockbuster likely won't have it.
