Just heard from a Chief Pilot that the Atlanta base is dead, and now they are turning their attention to possibly JFK. Anyone find a respectable place to live for a respectable price? I know apartments go for $2000 in Brooklyn.

Crashpads?

Thanks.

Kew Gardens.

Just a bus ride away from JFK...a bus and a subway to La Guardia...or a simple cab ride to either.

The place is crawling with airline folks, and it shouldn't be to hard to find a crashpad.

You can find a crashpad around Kew Gardens for probably $150-200 a month, but for the most part there will be quite a few people living there so its not like crashpadding in cincy with three or four guys.

I've seen aprtments for around $1400 and up in the Laguardia area..A friend of mine moved there and was sharing a 2 bedroom and paid about $700 a month.

I've got a question,

I'm about 150 # or so away from the most junior captain. And wouldn't mind a NYC base being from upstate NY.

If they couldn't get enough Captins to voluntarily go to NYC and me being an FO would gladly go, would that mean I could go as a NYC based Captain. I think it would work out that way but am not sure since this would be the first time I've been at a company that would actually be opening and not closing bases.

Anything's possible in this industry but you'd be surprised at how many CA would take a NorthEast base, they may have been sittingit out for years. Then again they may all be comfortable where they are now - still 150 numbers seems like a long way to go.

I highly doubt they would jr. man an FO to captain. They would most likely just jr. man some captains there.

There were doing that in the brasilia, but i think that was a special situation at the time, with all the jets coming and the plan to get rid of the 120's.

the company also junior manned fo's to fly as brasilia capts in MCO, as i flew with several in that very situation. key seemed to be they all kept their bids updated (which showed they had the required amount of flight time)

I know 150 seems like a long way but you'd be suprised how many FO's we have here that haven't taken an upgrade when they could have a long time ago.. I haven't counted but I'd guess maybe 75 or so atleast...so i'm figuring there would be a bunch of fo's ahead of me that WOULD NOT want to take an upgrade to sit reserve in NYC.

On the other hand I would put "CAPT. NYC" as my first choice so I wouldn't be a casualty of junior manning ,just would have a standing bid for NYC.

Granted when I started we were supposed to be junior manned to Dallas cause that was a sure thing, and just weeks ago Atlanta was all but a done deal. So I really don't expect NYC to "really happen", just doin some wishful thinking.
