If i were an executive at NWA and i had this agreement to play with here is what i would do......if i was an manipulating a$$hole that is.......please follow along...
1 buy a certificate to whipsaw the regionals to lower their cost structures and therefore NWA's cost structure.
2. start to develop that certificate for later use within the year.
3. once the agreement has been ratified and the lowest possible rate has been acheived at the regional level, start sending CRJ 705 (76 seats) to the regional, never exceeding the 55 limit imposed upon by the scope agreement. As the crjs and Avros numbers together reach 55, start replacing the Avros with crjs, once again never exceeding 55 total 76 seat jets.
4. when the total number at the regional is 55 crj 705s, start or have in place the certifcate from Fly i ready to go with the furloughed NWA pilots. bring the number of aircraft at this (sjet) to 35, making the total number of crjs at 90 as imposed by the scope agreement.
5. have a contract in place for training maintenance outsourcing for a CRJ 900 program at NWA. I beleive this will be with whoever gets the origional regional contract. start bringing crjs on property at NWA while equaling the number inthe 1:1 clause in the scope agreement. when the number gets to ten, start the paperwork to sell or offer an IPO for the (sjet) company. include the ten or more crjs that are at NWA in the deal. This can be made in a side agreement with the pilots by dangleing a carrot of more wide body planes (by this time, the orders for the new boeing will becoming apparent.
this is just an idea.........but what a way to replace the dc9s!
