NWA pilots: Q regarding age 60 Captains

At Northwest, if a 74 Captain hit 60 tomorrow could he bump back onto the panel or is he forced onto the street?

This scenario is the simplest way to ask a question that would otherwise get long winded, and that springs from proposed changes in my employer's seniority system (currently two list and ALPA).

Don't want to be a jerk but why, after being the boss would you WANT to go back as a herpe? The only good reason I could think of would be $$ but what does FE on the 747 pay? Don't know.

The PBGC is one reason. Too many ex-wives. Late family and kids in college. Career train wreck at some point. And, shocking to many on this board, some folks actually like doing this for a living.

Some guys may need a couple of more years to get vested or reduce the "early retirement" penalty because they started their NWA career later in life. Medical bennies is another reason. There are others, but I'm willing to bet it is rarely because they like riding sideways. Cheers...ExAF
