Being wide body bases it will be awhile. Block holders now are 1995 hires. Reserves are 1997 hires. With 1800+ retirements next 10 years, More A330's and the beginning of the 787 next year, should be good movement indefinitely.

Diesel,

The way things are running now we will be back in bankruptcey by this time next year, maybe sooner. I have never seen a more poorly run, moral operation in my life.

How long does it take to hold an FO position at SEA or ANC at the current time? Thanks.

Heyas,

I agree with what Cobra said. If you get on at NWA and are lucky, you'll move on to something better before you can hold ANC or SEA.

IMHO, the chances are VERY slim that NWA will exercise the 787 options, so once the 16 or so are delivered, I'd say that will be it. Even if they are delivered, they will be coupled with parking the 747s.

Coupled with the retirement of the DC-9s and A319s (all those captains will bid widebody FO), I'd say that it will be a very long wait for those bases if you're lucky enough to avoid getting furloughed to Compass.

Good luck with what you decide.

Why do people say they are retiring the A319s? I have heard this from several people now.

Are they just retiring some or all of them in the near future?

They are parking approx 30 A-319's and 40 DC-9's. That equates to about 750 pilot positions. They are going to add about 150 widebody positions, so net loss of about 600.

Widebody reserve F/O is 11 years, junior blockholder 12-13 years. What a joke.If you come here, expect narrowbody F/O for at least 10, 18 years to Airbus Capt.

Don't need them with the alter ego airline they have started called Compass.

Curiosity sake only but is cargo and passenger split at NW like at CX or can you bid between both as your seniority allows.

Heyas AC,

ANC is the only cargo/747-200 base. If you're there, your flying cargo and a very limited number of pax ops with the pax 747 (charter, mostly).

So, yes, I guess you can call it split. But if you want to do anything else, you have to bid out of ANC.
