Just sitting here watching the Wings channel with a program on Douglas and wondering how long NWA plans on using its DC-9's. Guess their the last major operator outside Airborne and USA Jet (I think FL's done or just about done).

How many more years?

Do they lease them or own?

How many does NWA still operate?

How old is the oldest/youngest?

What about time on the oldest/youngest?

I've seen a few in the new "rap group" paint.

Thanks

Probably until suppliers stop making parts and fixes.:D

I guess a paid for gas hog is cheaper than a fuel efficient model, or so I've been told.

I read that the 9's are due to hang out until about 2007...

As far as I know, they're all owned.....

The oldest is a -14 version that was around '68-'69

The youngest is the late 70's

Time? No Idea......

They're all refurbished with new interiors....

Up front, they're the same old 9's....

Best guess would be they start retiring slowly around 2006-2007, there is talk of CRJ700/900 (NW Mainline would need new contract) and the rest filled in with A319/320.

Do they lease them or own?
Believe they own all of them, they do actually go out and replace old DC9s, think they got some old ?Alitalia? ones couple years back.

How many does NWA still operate? 167 DC9-10/-30/-40/-50

How old is the oldest/youngest? DC9-10 ship no. 9150 delivery sometime in '66 DC9-50 are '79-80 deliveries

What about time on the oldest/youngest? Alot/not as much :-)

I like the new paint job, looks better than the "flying bowling shoe"

Did anyone stop to think that maybe painting the abbreviation for "N_gg_rs With Attitude" on the side of Northwest's fleet is a bad idea? I just know this came from a bunch of middle-class white guys in a board room who've never actually been to Detroit... :D

when i was an intern there (spring 02) the plans where to keep them until 2014. the 9 is NWA's best on time performer, i loved it

NW has just started section 6 negotiations on a new contract a few months ago, and you can bet 70/90 seat pay rates will be discussed.

A NWA Captain told me a few years ago that when NW retires the last A320, the crew will ride home from the desert in a DC-9

The other joke is that the last NWA DC-9 Captain hasn't been born yet....

CRACKER...PUHHHHLEEEEZE!

That's actually pretty funny...except for the fact that NWA, the rap group, is still making money. What's the flavor flav...

Do they lease them or own?

They have 35 DC9-50's, all are owned.
They have 12 DC9-40's, all are owned.
They have 112 DC9-30's, 13 are leased, 99 are owned.
They have 8 DC9-10's, all are owned.

Most of NW's aircraft are completely leveraged though so in a sense they don't own any of them.

How many more years?

They have been retiring 2-3 of them every year for the past few years. Currently they have so many spares that they have been parking them when they come up for heavy MX work to save on expenses. Who knows if some the old -9's waiting for "D" checks will ever enter service again. NW has been maintaining hull insurance on the desert birds so they don't have the number of 50 seat RJ's contracted due to scope language, who knows if they will ever admit that those aircraft are "retired."

As of yet NW doesn't have a fleet plan that addresses the replacement of the 112 100-seat DC-9's, and they won't be able to afford to replace them any time soon.

I've seen an awful lot of of N.W. DC-9's with registration numbers like "N1234E." I take it they picked up a lot of Eastern's -9's?

Yeah, they have quite a few ex-EAL -9's. They had alot of 72's from EAL as well.

Prior to 11 Sept 01

I used to fly for MidEx. Used the same gates at NWA at EWR.

One day, we heard a knock at the door (no kidding), it was a NWA driver who wanted a "peek" at our -10.....two by two leather seats.....steam gauges up front. I think we were the oldeest thing in the area :)

It was nice to "share" and I do MISS those days!!

If anyone knows what ICTS -- I'll buy the cider at MDW :)

Love thoes -10's. In philly I saw Midex's -10. I herd the controller telling somebody to follow Midex and hold short of 27R for 27L on Echo. The response, I think it was ACA who responded, was "Follow Minnie Me, hold short of 27R".
