I had a CHQ captain non-reving with us the other day on a very short flight. He sat across from my flight attendant and boasted the entire flight about how CHQ had the highest paid ERJ pilots in the industry, the second best contract, and that WHEN USAir goes under, they will have more than enough flying to do to keep them afloat. All of his comments were heard by passengers in his vicinity, including the one about the airline folding.

Of course he didn't pay a visit to us before or after the flight, in which case he would have received an earfull about his comments (we were informed before he left the aircraft). In addition, he made no offer to help our flight attendant spruce up the cabin before he left.

It took a while for her to calm down about this guy's statements, and believe me, she knows who you are... In the future, please try to act in a more professional manner when aboard our aircraft, especially when travelling in uniform with your badge exposed for all to see.

I guess all airlines have a few of these types, it is sad.

I'm curious, have you ever had a CHQ Ca fly with you that was polite and followed proper protocol and offered to help?

Hopefully you have and just didn't think to post a postive comment.

I guess the media has trained us to be like this, all news is bad news.

I don't expect a non-rev pilot to pay me a visit at all. I do it to say hello, and thank the guys up front for the ride. I've had non-rev's do it in the past, and the extra conversation can be a nice thing. If he or she wishes to come up front for a chat, it is certainly welcome.

I do however ask the flight attendant if there's anything I can do to help out after landing. Seems like a little professional courtesy to me.

I've not had any other CHQ guys riding on my airplane. I've ridden in the back of theirs a few times, and have had a pleasant experience every time. I hope you don't take it as a slam on your entire pilot group. We all have some bad apples.

That being said:
Why did your flight attendant continue to talk to him for the entire flight?

Do you expect all non-revs to come forward and kiss your ring prior to taking their seats? Is the non-rev employee charged for their travel? Does your company not pay someone to clean their planes?

Just curious.

DA90, read my prior post. I don't expect a non-rev pilot to "kiss my ring".

The only reason I bothered to mention that the guy didn't come up to say hi is because both the captain and I would have voiced our opinions to the guy had he done so, rather than me doing it on this board.

The guy was seated in the first row directly in front of him. Her only other alternative was to ignore the guy.

Yes, it is the flight attendant's job to pick up the trash in the cabin, and cross seatbelts during turns. The only exception is when the aircraft is a terminator.
 
I used to go up front even when non reving in a different lifetime. Now I just take my seat and hope not to get bumped off the flight. In todays environment of everyone thinking everyone else is taking their flying it's better to just avoid the situation.
 
Sorry, not to the Captain. Yes, I try to help the flight attendant when there is time to do so. As soon as I'm done with the things I have to do during a turn, I head to the back.
 
I agree that it is very distasteful to portray a bad image infront of passengers, however if you heard this second hand from your flight attendent you may have jumped the gun. She probably instigated the conversation with a "no US Air" question. He probably responded to a "no US Air" situation in a positive manner for Chatauqua.
 
...stop beating around the bush - what he did was wrong. We at CHQ disapprove of his behavior. Get his name and PM it.

I am NEVER happy in the least when the news of an airline is close to liquidation.........it is bad for the families involved.

Not to mention it is bad for ALL pilots who want to move on from the regionals....think about it.
 
Isn't that kind of talk a violation of the non-rev agreement?

It is at least as serious of an issue as dress code.

Also, it does nothing to help further our goal to be seen in a good light by the traveling public. Passengers must always see us at our best.

All beatings must take place in the crew room.

OPEC is completely in the right on this one. Non rev or jumpseat: pay your respect. No other way. If someone is good enough to give me a free ride and the FA gives me top notch service, which always happens, then go into the cockpit and shake some hands. And keep the politics out of the plane. I work at GIA and I get a lot of sh!t for it, Mesa guys get a lot of poop for who they are too. Everyone seems to hate everyone for some stupid reason. If you come on my plane, keep that crap out of the cabin.

I am always willing to give anyone a free ride anywhere they need to go. Just be cool.

By the way, there was this CHQ crew that did something really nice for us in Nassau a few weeks ago. I have no idea who it was but the CA and the FA saw we were flying the 1900 and it was f-in hot outside. They brought us some cold water and food from the plane out of the goodness of their hearts. I thanked them but something better should be done for them. If anyone knows who they are let me know via pm. Thanks.
 
Does CHQ have a Professional Standards Committee? If so and if all this is true I think that they'd like to hear about it.

As an aside, while anyone would be justified taking umbrage at behavior such as this, there are better methods to address it than to shout it out in public and thereby painting all with the same brush.

Good point Axel. I'm certainly not trying to pin this on any other CHQ crewmember. EVERYONE else that I've come in comtact with at CHQ has been nothing but a total 180 for this guy.
 
Yes we have a PSC and would like his name. Every airline has holes like this and we would like to take care of this matter in-house.
 
I'll pass the info to the flight attendant. She's the one who has this person's name. I don't want to pass it around on this board, but did want to share the story.
