Ryanair Bids for Aer Lingus; Northwest splits its RJ order between Bombardier and Embraer

Earlier in the week, Ryanair announced a surprise all cash offer ($1.9 billion equity value) for Aer Lingus, Ireland’s flag carrier, after accumulating approximately 16% of the company’s outstanding shares (a stake which Ryanair subsequently increased to 19.2%).

Northwest has entered into a Purchase Agreement with Embraer, to purchase 36 Embraer 175 aircraft with delivery dates ranging from May 2007 through December 2008. Northwest also entered into a Purchase Agreement with Bombardier to purchase 36 CRJ 900 aircraft with delivery dates ranging from May 2007 through October 2008.
ACE Payout Approved
Investors in ACE Aviation Holdings voted in favor of a payout of as much as C$2 billion in cash or securities, paving the way for the carrier to unload part of its Aeroplan stake.
