If one calls in sick and jumpseats on a different non-affiliated airline, how does one get caught. The way i understand it is that when we go to a different airline such as alaska, they fill out a jumpseat request which is on paper. If there are seats in the back, then they do not go through the cass system and just enter the info manually. How does one still get caught? The reason i am asking is that a captian and i got into a debate about travelling while sick. I told him that you can still get caught but he was on the assumption that there are is no copy and other airlines do not release this information to the company you work for.

make sure your airline can't access the others reservation system and don't give them a reason to check... and have a good reason to jumpseat....like a funeral... jumpseating to Honolulu to party after you called in sick is B-A-D.

I was under the impression that if your airline is a CASS participant, the gate agents will still verify your ID on CASS even if you're going to get a seat in the back. At least that's what ALK gate agents did when I was jumpseating between SEA & DEN last year.

Just be careful if you're going to call in sick and non-rev/jumpseat. This is a very small industry and things like this can unexpectedly catch up with you.

Good luck!

Management's (justifiable) position:

"If you are too sick to be a crewmember for us, how can you XCM for someone else?" This is a question that can easily involve the FAA if you were seated in the cockpit and your company wants to push it.

If you are going to do it, you should not be in the cockpit and you need to be heading from wherever you called in sick on your way to your residence.

Go ahead, call me the spelling police. If English is your second language, I apologize. If not..... wow. Our education system.

Cut him some slack. They were talking about this after a long Sunday morning of flying and went straight to the bar. Now that he's in the hotel room, he's asking the rest of us.

Cooper,

Correcting spelling/grammar is a losing battle on the internet, especially among the pilot group. I would try to relax and not lose any sleep over it.

If I had a penny each time someone misused these:
- Its & it's
- Too, two, & to
- There, their, & they're
- Our & are (this one is probably the worst)
- You're & your,
I'd be a millionaire.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the threat. Please carry on.

I love to tell this story. I was working at an electronics store in college. It was a slow day and the store manager and I were talking at the front of the store. There was a huge big screen in the front and we had the hockey game on. The manager was telling me how one of his sales people called in sick. As we're watching the game, we see the salesperson on the TV at the hockey game!!! That was classic! Needless to say, he didn't have a job after that! You never know who will be nonreving somewhere. What if your chief pilot is going somewhere the same time you are and you cross paths in the airport? You never know and is it really worth getting fired over?

Yeah, sorry. I'm no mensa member, but I keep reading posts by supposed college graduates, who demand respect and high pay, but don't feel the need to use correct grammar or spell correctly.

It is a losing battle, and I just need to accept that these are the times we are living in.

Signed,

curmudgeon in training

Sorry about the grammar. I sometimes type without proof-reading my posts.

On a side note, i just finished a four day and had to commute cross-crountry. I need to go to bed. Thanks for the respnses.

As a side hijack, when did the plural of a noun require an apostrophe before the letter "s?"

"Pilot's", when not showing possession, is one of my favorites.

Or is it "favorite's?"

Go be an English teacher if you love grammer so much. Some of the richest people don't have college educations. You ever a see a rapper try to read and write? They have more money then your Embry Riddle degree and little RJ will ever make you. A college degree doesn't make you any smarter or better then the next person.

My company claims they check CASS queries. That, of course, doesn't mean you actually got on the flight, but it does indicate intent. Check with your union concerning your company's policy.

Gramar gurus, please be kind. I'm one handed right now.

Go be an English teacher if you love grammer {sic} so much.

Do you do your checklists and make your callouts "your way," or do you do them correctly? Communicating in English is no different. If you use your own "brand," then it makes it hard to understand what you're saying, and often conveys a different meaning than what you intended.

If not to communicate your thoughts, why even post? Some of the communication on this site is so poor that I truly can't understand what some people are trying to write. That defeats the whole point of writing.

Some of the richest people don't have college educations.

This is high school stuff.

You ever a see a rapper try to read and write?

Yes, I have. It's embarrassing, too.

Never said and never will say I'm smarter or better than others. It ain't the way I work. I also never define success by the size of my WALLET (name that movie)!!!! Jay-Z and Fiddy and all those other folks--more power to 'em. And no, I'm not one of those 65K Skybus wannabes.

There are a good number of guys and gals on here have college educations and can't write or spell worth a lick. Odds are that they're infinitely smarter than me. There are also guys and gals with no college background who are infinitely smarter than me and are superior writers.

It's all about the presentation, man. To me, reading a well written post lends a helluva lot more credibility to that individual than to those who offer up the classic "Your an idiot."

I'm far from a mental wizard. I don't interview well and I'm bald and goofy, so I need all the help I can get in job searches and other facets of life. Being able to write somewhat comprehensively (although not necessarily entertaining) is one place where I can help myself.

Yeah yeah... hang me for my typo. :)

Like Coopervane, I'm not a MENSA member and I don't think I'm better then anyone else.

When I worked at Skyway, there was a Dispatcher who was suspended for looking at porn sites while at work. He was still able to nonrev on Midwest for a quick vacation while suspended.
