Three weeks ago I went and spoke to an AF Officer Recruiter and he told me that my age was waiverable (29 1/2) and that I would be very competitive with my flight time and experience. Today I got a letter from him in the mail telling me that I must discontinue the application process due to my age.

I was all excited and have even begun to study for the AFOQT exam that I was going to take on the 16th of this month.

Does anyone know about the other military branches and if they would be willing to give a person my age a waiver??

I have exhausted all my options in the civilian world and now the military doesn't even want me.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The Army is the only service where you might be able to get in. I think they might have raised the age to 30, but they will be the most likely give you a waiver. Talk to an active duty recruiter, and also talk to a Guard/Reserve recruiter. The guard can work waivers a lot easier.

AD Army is currently waivering people that are 32 and 33 yrs old for RW slots. I have a buddy that I use to flight instruct with thats at IERW at Rucker right now and he told me they have more slots than people applying right now. I have no idea if thats true or not but I do know you shouldnt have any problem getting a waiver.

Are you going into the Guard or Reserves? From what I understand the Air Force has raised the maximum age requirement to 30, so must have a pilot slot by your 30th birthday.

You shouldn't need a waiver. If you are looking into the Guard or Reserves, I would look into another unit.

I believe the AF requires you to start UPT by the age limit time frame, not just in the AF.

I would check with some guard units that are hurting for pilots, mostly tanker and 130 units. They might wavier it for you, just depends on the unit.

good luck

I talked to the Army a few months back. Going W.O. you can not be 29 before the W.O. board meets to review your applications.

Coast Guard?

Do a search in the military forum for a bunch of info on the CG, that might be something you would be interested in. They may waiver the age to 32. You can call a recruiter at 800-GET-USCG and they should be able to tell you if its a possibility.
