What exactly are you trying to argue Andy? Airline pilots are immune from politicians? As you say, noone feels sorry for our profession or union members. Which is why I would argue that its imperative for us to have friends in office.

As a UAL pilot yourself, are you telling me there was nothing political about United twice being denied an ATSB loan guarantee? This after US Airways, America West, ATA, and others were granted same. Do you think the corporate governance of the ESOP had anything to do with it? These are rhetorical questions to me, but your mileage may differ.

That neither Dems nor Repubs are our friends. I don't know why some here think that siding with Dems is going to help us - it isn't. And like it or not, the Dems are currently a party in decline. The power will be with the Repubs as long as they are able to capture a large portion of the independent (aka Tea Party, Libertarian) vote. Dubya cost the Repubs the independent vote; they're now working hard on getting it back. I think that the majority of independent voters are weary of the Obama/Reid/Pelosi circus.

Personally, my opinion is that Dems and Repubs are simply two sides of the same coin. There's very little difference between the two parties; it's all kubuki theater.

It's my opinion youre wrong Andy- in fact I know it is, but it's a wasted energy trying to convince when so many pilots are still so staunchly conservative after republicans have flat out waged war on us-
But, I've also accepted that many pilots would slit their wrists before voting Dem, so the argument is don't be apathetic- write the politicians you vote for and ask for their support.

I'm just not into apathy in a democracy. Left, right, in the middle- everyone has rightful contempt for those who've given up or don't care

You need to have a discussion with the Chicago teachers union.

Neither party really sides with labor.......it's the lesser of the two evils. Which party will be more sympathetic to union issues? When is the last time ANY union supported a Republican candidate?
