From a Flight Options Pilot

Everyone Vote!

I know you will be successful and congratulate you all!
I have ran into hundreds of you on the road and everyone of you have been full of information and support. I thank you and the vast majority of FO pilots thank you. All I can say is "What a first class group of aviators".
I wish I made a different decision many years ago!

NetJets is a Berkshire Hathaway company.

Last year was our most profitable ever.

We have $2.5 billion in now aircraft on order.

The only things keeping us from growing faster is training slots and we can't get airplanes fast enough.

We have NEVER furloughed a pilot.

You future would be secure.

Incorrect.

There was a time, albeit it was very long ago, back when Netjets was still EJA,that they DID furlough.

Just a small point, but thought I'd mention it.

Times are good for us. This is probably one of the most secure jobs in aviation right now.

Just know that our history suggests anything could happen in the future.

You are most likely referring to a time when we flew a few lears as a Part 135 Charter Operator.

Before Berk Hath.

Before the Fractional Concept was born.

Before Santulli.

A completely different busuiness model.

A completely differnet set of books, circumstances.

Pretty much everything.

Ok. Got it.

A more accurate way of stating what you did is to say that there were furloughs once at a company that operated with the name Executive Jet Aviation. EJA was the preceeding company that provided the Operating Certificate (nothing more) to NetJets Aviation.

Shortly after 2001, Netjets (then known as Executive Jet) did furlough, but it was Executive Jet management (EJM) a sister company to Executive Jet Aviation (EJA).

Flylow and Ozpilot,

Actually, at the time of the furlough, we were operating Citation SII's. This was prior to 2001. I'm not sure of the EXACT date, but I want to say early to mid 90's.

Santulli already owned the company and had started the fractional business. In the beginning though, no one knew about fractionals and the program did very poorly. Santulli dumped tens of millions into the company just to keep it going.

I wasn't working here at the time, but a close friend of mine was. She was one of the pilots furloughed. She eventually was hired by the FAA, but didn't like the work and came back to EJA and is now a captain on the X.

So it was EJA that furloughed, and it was not before the fractional model had started, but after.

However, as Flylow pointed out, things are VERY different now than when the fractional business was just in its infancy. For now, it really is one of the most secure jobs in aviation.

I truly hope it stays that way!

I just wanted to point out that Fisch's statement that we've NEVER furloughed wasn't entirely accurate.

Sister company with pilots not on the NJA/EJA pilot seniority list.

Thanks for the clarification.

It wasn't entirely inaccurate either!

"It depends on what the definition of IS, is."

;)

I voted and sent in my automatic dues deduction form. Now I get home from my trip, and the my mail awaits me. I have to vote again and fill out another form for dues deduction. Or do I?

I got a duplicate mailing too, and was wondering the same thing. For what it's worth, since the union doesn't seem to be allowed, it seems, to use company emailings, I spit off a bunch of bcc blackberry emails to classmates and people I've flown, reminding them of the deadline and who to call if they are unaware of their lost/junk mail-ignored ballot info. I was two for two in tours with people who wore NJSAP lanyards yet seemed unaware of the ballots or vote deadline.

No, you don't. Keep in mind that NJASAP doesn't have an office staff yet, and all of this (including the mailings) is done on a volunteer basis. They're currently working on cataloging who's sent their application/checkoff form in and who hasn't. If you got a duplicate mailing, it does not mean your other stuff wasn't received.

As for the voting, make sure it's the telephone vote you did. I've run into several folks who think that sending that card in was their vote -- it isn't.

CA1900 is correct, but www.njasap.com is the right place to ask that question. Many more people in the know over there.

Voting closes today. When will the results be ready? NJW mentioned July 11 as the NJASAP Independence Day. Will it take that long to certify the results? Good luck either way, guys. I'm sure you all made the right decision regardless of the outcome.

The final count was available shortly after the poll closed...thanks to telephonic voting. Those with access to the NJASAP board and/or a NJA pilot will be able to learn exactly how big the margin was. I was told not to publicly release the final numbers, but suffice it to say that the goal of independence was extremely popular among NJ pilots. ;) Our NJ families can buy extra fireworks for the 11th. The NJ Association becomes the official representative of the NJA pilots that day.
