New to this board, but have been please to read all the good things about NJA. Thinking of making a move from aregional and wanted to ask a few more questions about the contract.

  • How strong is this new contract? Has the management used any loopholes on the old contract to there advantage?
  • What are there commuter policies? If I’m booked on a flight to get to DAL on Southwest and the flight cancels do I get a free trip to see the CP?
  • Is there a probation period for new hires before receiving union protection?
  • What kind of hotels do they put you up in? Hampton Inns / Hilton, or Motel 6 and Super 8
  • Can you be assigned a training event on your days off?
  • Once assigned a domicile, one of the five, can you move to another whenever you like?
  • Are there fences moving from plane to plane?
  • If management does violate the contract what are the pilot’s group’s recourses? Grievances???
[*]How willing has the management been to violate the contract?
[*]Does anyone know where you can get a look at the new contract?

How strong is this new contract? Has the management used any loopholes on the old contract to there advantage? Very Strong, both sides are still working on the blue book
What are there commuter policies? If I’m booked on a flight to get to DAL on Southwest and the flight cancels do I get a free trip to see the CP? Just be in position by your showtime. That's the policy
Is there a probation period for new hires before receiving union protection? 1 year
What kind of hotels do they put you up in? Hampton Inns / Hilton, or Motel 6 and Super 8 --- hilton, marriot, sheraton, holiday inn select mdw which is really nice
Can you be assigned a training event on your days off? your schedule can be shifted if on the 7n7 but no it's still a workday
Once assigned a domicile, one of the five, can you move to another whenever you like? yes unless they pay for your move
Are there fences moving from plane to plane? no
If management does violate the contract what are the pilot’s group’s recourses? Grievances??? steward, grievance, continue up the line
How willing has the management been to violate the contract? with 284 every chance they could get... With 1108 they get their hands slapped at every turn
Does anyone know where you can get a look at the new contract? www.ibt1108.org

You should do a search, most of your questions have been answered, and very recently. However:

There is no language in the CBA that covers changing domiciles for new-hires.

Are there fences moving from plane to plane?
No fences, but seatlocks. 2 yrs, except if you move to NJI - then it's longer.

Is there a Training agreement/contract?

I would look it up by I've been busy dusting the cobwebs off my ATP study guide.

The new Pilot contract did away with training contracts. You can leave at any time with no penalty.

How strong is this new contract?

A contract is a piece of paper.

It's "strength", other than the weight rating of the paper it is printed on, is dependent upon the strength of Unity within the ranks of it's Union.

This is a strong contract.

This is a Stong Union.

Has the management used any loopholes on the old contract to there advantage?

No "loopholes" carryover by accident following Section 6. Loopholes usually exist becasue the pilot group has a quid pro quo on some other tidbit in the contract or because the compliance/grievance committee failed to "tend to the weeds".

What are there commuter policies? If I’m booked on a flight to get to DAL on Southwest and the flight cancels do I get a free trip to see the CP?

On day 1 (not the day prior to) of duty you will be assigned some form of duty. If that duty is an airline assignment and you show up on time and the airline cancels, gets delayed, or diverts then the company will find something else for you to do.

If you are referring to the whole reporting to Domicile situation for newhires who live somewhere other than your Domicile... I'd say that you need to be in your Domicile on time for Day 1. Period. That's the deal.

1 question to ask the interviewers is whether we have the ability to jumpseat on airlines. The answer is NO. You will most likely be turned away by the gate monkeys prior to even reaching the airplane.

The fact is that we have no jumpseat agreement and the one reason for that is becasue upper management has failed to approve such a policy that would allow us to have offline jumpseaters on Owner planes.

It's alright though... when enough pilots pass on the job, we will forego trying to get a jumpseat agreement and get HBA for everyone.

Is there a probation period for new hires before receiving union protection?

After 1 year you will be protected by the RLA. Your Union will attempt to protect you from day 1.Legal protections come after 1 year though.

What kind of hotels do they put you up in? Hampton Inns / Hilton, or Motel 6 and Super 8??

Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Starwood, unique resorts and all-inclusives. Depends on where you land for the night. If you stay in "The Rusty Cannon Motel and Saloon" its because there simply was no other game in town.

Can you be assigned a training event on your days off?

Aircraft and company Recurrent Training are scheduled well in advance. Your 7 n7 schedule can be "slid" to accomodate a training slot but this is done with plenty of notice ahead of time. Days off are for days off. The company will not contact you on days off. I would welcome the grievance money if they did.

Once assigned a domicile, one of the five, can you move to another whenever you like?

I have no idea.

Are there fences moving from plane to plane?

2 yr equipment lock last I heard

If management does violate the contract what are the pilot’s group’s recourses? Grievances???

I made $9,000 in grievance money last year. We know how to file a few of them over here. Better yet, we know how to win.

So far this year I am at nearly $3,000. The saga continues.

How willing has the management been to violate the contract?

It is usually out of ignorance that the company violates the contract... in my experience. It is the job of Compliance and the Stewards to help them rediscover the true intent of the language.

Does anyone know where you can get a look at the new contract?

I do in fact!

I couldn't find it anywhere in the contract. How does Netjets handle paternity leave?

Well... to my knowledge NJA has no stance on paternity. It's either yours or it's not. I'd say that the average Chief Pilot will wish that the force be with you in regards to the test results. ;)

Maternity leave, however, is something covered under FMLA I believe. There is more than adequate time to be had off for a new father to spend with his family.

Just not sure how it works. I've only taken leave for a cavity.

Flylow - can you please give some examples of the $$$ you made on grievance pay. Is this on top of your regular salary? Kind of like Nj paying a ticket for violating you?

Thanks - Baja.
