The NetJets hiring page lists these as the current hiring minimums:
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Multi-Engine Land)
  • Current FAA First Class Medical certificate
  • 2500 hours total pilot time
  • 500 hours fixed wing multi-engine time
  • 250 hours instrument time
What are competitive minimums? Any chance someone could get hired right at these minimums but with no 121 or 135 time?

How important is jet time to NJA?
Are they hiring people without jet time but with the above minimums met?

Do they have a strong preference for turbojet time vs turboprop time, or doesn't it matter?

Thanks in advance for all responses. This looks like a very high quality company and I'm trying to plan a roadmap to it. I meet all the above minimums but I'm a little short on total time.

I think they are looking for at least the minimums, but jet time is a definite bonus. PIC Jet is even better...I think they are good with 3000 hours, but they want some decent experience....good luck

Basic instrument skills and good overall attitude are probably the biggest keys. They also look for CRM in the sim during the interview.

When I was submitting electronic resumes, the auto-response I got always mentioned that the average new-hire had 5700 hours TT. But remember, that's an average so some people have more, some have less. Honestly, if you meet the minimums and are interested, apply and let the HR people decide if they are interested. And having an internal recommendation only bolsters your case.

As for jet time, I know a number of people hired here that had turboprop-only experience, including me. It does seem, though, that if you've got jet experience, they may try to put you in some of the larger planes. That said, aircraft are also assigned on a more practical basis - what training slots are opened when you are offered the job.

NJA internal recommendations?

Thank you SAEFlyer and Guitar Guy for your replies. I don't know anyone at NJA, so an internal recommendation might be a problem when the time comes.

How does one usually go about getting those? Typically, will NJA only take seriously a recommendation from a pilot who has known me for a while and flown with me a lot, or would a recommendation from an NJA pilot I don't know as well make a difference? I'm wondering because doesn't HR just assume that many people just get their buddies to talk them up regardless? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, just trying to figure out a legitimate way to increase my chances of being hired at NJA. This company is exactly what I have been looking for, and I think it's a good match for the long term.

Nancy, spend some time in some FBO's and I'm sure you will run into plenty of NJ guys. Stay with the forums for some time and make some freinds here. At 1000 tt you have some time to work on your networking so I wouldn't worry about any doors being shut for you. Actually you have the advantage over those of us that have been in the biz for a long time, you can shape and direct your career hunt. Good luck and keep the faith....Baja.

A letter from someone who has flown with you is best. The guys I see as new hires generally have on an average around 3800 tt. Most have a lot of jet or turbo prop time.

As for this company being exactly what you have been looking for, working for NJA is a lot of work. It means long days on the road missing B-Days, Holidays, anniverserys, etc. It means preflighting at 530am on the ramp at TEB, when the wind is blowing 45 and the temp is well below freezing. There are good points also, but don't try and make this place into something it isn't...

All the fractional guys out there earn EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR, they make. It is a hard job.

I was the only one in my group with an internal letter of Rec, I THINK, but not positive. I don't know how many got the call but i think most of us did. It helps i think, because when i went in for my interview, they had my letter of rec out and told me they had read it before i came in the room. Good luck
