If you want an interview faster and you don't care where you are based, ask for LAX and CMH. My interview came quick and those that waited wanted the other bases.

I'm commuting to LAX and it sucks, but it's an improvement from my commute at the regionals. I was very lucky on the timing of my hire date and training. I was able to bid the 7/7 schedule while in indoc and never had to do the reserve schedule.

To commute, I buy cheap tickets on SWA for about $60 every two weeks. It's a guaranteed seat unless the flight cancels. I wouldn't rely on jumpseating. It may be possible, but it's not worth it. I have taken an empty NJA plane to work once. It's not something you can do on a regular basis. To get home, I get a dummy ticket from the company to let me know how much money I have to get home and I buy my own ticket. So far, I've been incredibly lucky that my tours have ended in SWA cities, but I'm sure I'll get burned one of these days and have to fork over some dough.

I came to NJA prepared to commute until the new contract, about 3 years. After that, I would hope I'm based where I live, or maybe I'll move. I'm cautiously optimistic about the IBB vote that should occur in a few months.
