Just got the app in the mail this weekend and have a few questions.

Do any of you guys without flight benefits commute using the airlines. I realize NetJets cannot reciprocate these privileges, but I’m wondering if any of you are able to jumpseat.

How hard is it to commute using empty NJ legs? I imagine the plans for the aircraft might change quickly and leave me without a ride.

As far as the app goes, which base will get me the quickest interview and should I submit letters of recommendation with the app or save them for the interview?

Thanks to everyone! I realize it’s just an app, but the hope is that it results in a job I’ll love. I’ve been working towards this goal for a while and it’s finally attainable.

Unless you are retired airline with flight priv's, its not an option.

Ferry flights: If you count on that you will end up in the CP's office for missing 10 of your first 10 tours.

Its a great job and there should be more developments on basing options Oct 1st of this year that may help you (and me). Stay tuned.

I would fill out the App, move to the first domicile available and chances are you will have more options by year end, along with a better seniority number. If not, just quit with your free type rating and go to the regionals as a walk on Captain. Good times, Good times!

I agree.. by the time you actually interview, either we will have more basing options, or we won't.. either way, get your foot in the door now.. good luck

In my class, there is a large number that will be commuters. There are several in the previous class that are going to try their hand at it as well. Buy up those refundable tickets, and hope to get on 7 and 7 ASAP.

Hi!

Street Captains?:
Pinnacle
Mesa
Big Sky
Great Lakes
Colgan?
And a whole HOST of overseas jobs, most starting at over $100K. Some have home basing.

If you want an interview faster and you don't care where you are based, ask for LAX and CMH. My interview came quick and those that waited wanted the other bases.

I'm commuting to LAX and it sucks, but it's an improvement from my commute at the regionals. I was very lucky on the timing of my hire date and training. I was able to bid the 7/7 schedule while in indoc and never had to do the reserve schedule.

To commute, I buy cheap tickets on SWA for about $60 every two weeks. It's a guaranteed seat unless the flight cancels. I wouldn't rely on jumpseating. It may be possible, but it's not worth it. I have taken an empty NJA plane to work once. It's not something you can do on a regular basis. To get home, I get a dummy ticket from the company to let me know how much money I have to get home and I buy my own ticket. So far, I've been incredibly lucky that my tours have ended in SWA cities, but I'm sure I'll get burned one of these days and have to fork over some dough.

I came to NJA prepared to commute until the new contract, about 3 years. After that, I would hope I'm based where I live, or maybe I'll move. I'm cautiously optimistic about the IBB vote that should occur in a few months.
