Another source has told me that I can approach $35K in year one through a combination of overtime and per diem, and can exceed even that by picking up some extra stuff like we do in the regionals. Is this BS? Still chump change but just trying to weigh things vs the $26-27-28K figure that is generally bounced around here as max you'll make first year. Is it true that in the interviews they bandie about some ridiculously unrealistic figure like $41K or something?

You probaly can break 30 your first year but not by much. You might get some extended days but not many. All perdiem goes in your pocket, for the most part. You will make more here 1st year than a regional. As for the 42K the company will tell you....well there they go again.

You'd better believe it! I've heard the HR folks tell the interviewees that with my own ears. I think you can find that $41K figure in print somewhere too. They used to advertise $62k by second year but they dropped that one.

In any event make sure you can afford to work here, because if you can't, they will come after you for the cost of training.

To be forwarned is to be forarmed.
