I've read much about the health and dental coverage, and how great it is.

Just wondering if there's orthodontic coverage. I have a 9-year-old that has braces and need to plan for future expenses, if I get lucky next month.

Thanks!

Yes they do, can not remember exactly how much. All I see on the website that I can find is
"Lifetime Age-limited Ortho maximum-see note above
$1,500.00"

Covers $1500? All I know is I could not use it for my wife.

You can use your Flex spending for this also. Keeps a little more from the IRS.

There is, but it's not going to cover a heck of a lot of it: it'll cover 50% of orthodontia up to a $1500 lifetime (not annual) maximum. But hey, it's $1500 less out of your pocket... Ortho coverage is "for a dependent child up to age 19 or to age 23 if a full time student and unmarried." (Fozzy, that's why your wife couldn't use it.)

For other dental services, it's either $1500 or $1000 per year per person, depending on if you go in-network or out-of-network, respectively. That covers 100% of preventative care (cleaning, xrays, etc.), 100% of basic services (or 80% if out-of-network; it covers fillings, root canals, etc.), and 60% (50% out-of-network) of major things like crowns, implants, etc.

Annual deductible is just $25 per person per year, then as above.

Hope that helps. Good luck next month!

Avro,

You have to factor in that you are not PAYING monthly for Premiums.

If you pay $400 monthly premiums for medical insurance ... now. Compared to ZERO premiums likely at least until 2016 with our 2007CBA. (I don't know what people are paying now but I paid that more than 10 yrs ago before coming to EJA).

Thats about $34K you won't pay in premiums in next 7 yrs if you are hired this year. Enough to pay for Orthadontia?

To add to that...$25 is the individual deductible. Families are only charged a flat rate of $75 to cover everyone. For those wondering, NJ pilots are now covered by Aetna for dental care as well as health care; previously we had Metlife for the dental portion.

As GF states, health care is an important part of the overall compensation package and locking in the good deal the NJ pilots/families enjoy is an advantage to their long contract, especially when other groups already pay more and then see their share going up. Down the road I hope that no-cost health care will truly become the industry standard for fractional pilots as it is for many other professionals.

Good Luck, Avro!

Not a single 121 carrier that im aware of gives free medical coverage. You are lucky if you are covered in the first 6mo to 1year of employment at any of the majors that were once hiring. Im paying over 400 month for terrible coverage right now.

Cant wait for the free bennies to begin may 19th!!!!!

Rydog, congratulations! Over $400 a month for terrible coverage?! Going to good healthcare for free. No wonder you're counting the days. Luckily, you're almost there. Good luck with the transition, training, etc...:) Don't forget to sign up for the NJASAP board. NJW

Thats my point.

NJ covers you from the FIRST DAY you walk on the property!

For $5K LESS than you pay now.
So I would not worry too much if the entire cost of braces for a child goes a little over the spending limit.
