Just got off the phone with a buddy (who fly’s) and he told me that his wife and the rest of the cabin crew on her flight (flt607 out of Vegas) are in the hospital in Atlanta because they were business as usual doing their thing as they were entering a thunderstorm environment during final decent into Atlanta this afternoon. A” UNEXPECTED severe turbulence encounter” is what the pilots told the ambulance driver. She has a possible neck injury from the CEILING. Getting a CAT SCAN as I write this.

Unexpected?…WHAAAT?… Flying into a thunderstorm environment? That’s like saying me getting up in the morning and taking a big dump is “unexpected”.

Maybe you AWA guys should spend less time studying to be FFDO s and more time studying the “weather for Private Pilots” section in the Jepp PVT PLT text book. Get your head out of Phoenix guys…SIT EM DOWN EARLY!!! IF YOU’RE DRIVING INTO A T-STORM!!! There is some nasty weather east of the Mississippi.

Oh, were you there? Do you know what the radar was painting? Do you know what the options were? I love how you can armchair quarterback this when you weren't there. I don't work for AWA, but I can dang well say that unless I wasn't there, I don't know what happened. Unforunately, FA injuries are on the rise industry wide and we all need to pay more attention out there but you can't sit here on a public forum and spout off about what you "know" happened. Give me a break!!!

Have you looked at the elapsed radar over ATL all afternoon?

Yes, it looks like **** and as professional pilots we fly around that stuff all the time, whats your point?

Yeah i just flew through it. It was smooth at times and then sudden moderate turbulance out of the blue. mostly light chop but ther was some rough bumps. Definitly a bumpy evening. Hope they are alright.

Would you not think to sit your crew down going into (or around) that stuff? Or would that be "unexpected" for you?

What I would or would not do is not my point. My point is that I wasn't there to make that call and so why should I be the judge and jury on an aviation forum. Were you there? Were you riding in the jumpseat? You have second hand information and you're criticizing a crew that you haven't met or flown with? How do you think you look? Do you have a beef with AWA or something? And just maybe you shoudn't publicize anything about FFDO's on a general forum? (Just a thought)

Now, folks, okcplt is right. Everybody around the industry knows that AWA's policy is to seek severe turbulence when ever and where ever we can. If you don't like it; don't fly AWA. I'm sure the proper authorities in ATL have confiscated the pilot's passports already to prevent them from leaving the county. How about a good, ole fashioned lyinchin' in the morning?

How bout a double ding before you try to punch a hole thru a nimbus?

Why don't you talk to the pilots about what happened? I'd be careful to take a FA's story at face value.

Just curious, do you know otherwise whether the Capt notified the first FA in advance to be careful due to weather forthcoming? This way the FA's can make their own decision whether to buckle up or not.

While there is more than one story on every flight I cant tell you how many times I call back there, tell them to sit down and 5 minutes later while in the weather and then it gets smooth for a few minutes I hear them up in the galley again when they should be seated! While I was not on this particular flight I am sure nobody intentionally tryed to hurt the FA's and I hope they are all right.

Worst turbulence I ever had was a nice clear day with light winds in Denver. Painting doesn't mean Shaet. also, I've warned FA's many many times that it was coming, only to have them up and about when it hits.

Funniest Turbulence encounter I ever heard was a Delta 75 asking for 30 degrees left for a Level 5 cell just west of Colorado Springs. The controller asked four airplanes ahead if they felt or saw anything, and everyone said it was a smooth ride and clear skies. A minute later someone says over Center..."Delta...that's Pikes Peak...ya'll might want to tilt yer radar up..." One minute later Delta asks for direct again.

At least I thought it was hilarious.

Clear air turbulence I can sympathize with. But when your flying into a known thunderstorm environment it behooves you to err on the side of caution and be proactive in protecting your crew (IE sitting them down VERY early).

Morons finding their way to the front seats of airliners and then hurting people are not humorous to me.

At first I was going to write a serious rebuttle. You're clearly not worth it. All I can say is, "my god you're a retard."

OKC,

What exactly are you trying to accomplish here beyond demonstrating that you're a prick who somehow deems himself righteous enough to talk down to an entire pilot group? (bravo!)

You've been told a hearsay version of a story and looked at an elapsed radar for ATL and that makes you a master of the facts? You weren't on the flight or in the cockpit...those facts are all the information you should need to not have opened your trap in the first place.

Does it feel good to be arrogant and angry? Those are two traits I think make the best pilots. It must be a great source of pride to be better than the entire AWA pilot group? All I ask is that you use your talent for good. Teach us...don't be selfish now.

My "version" is not hearsay. As this situation is about to get a bit more complicated, I will end with this:

Lots of airliners flew into and around that system yesterday. Probably into the thousands. I will go out on a limb and state that if I had the pointy end of my airplane aimed at a thunderstorm for 3 hours and 26 minutes I could have managed to not be the only guy for the day who put over half his crew in the hospital and bend my airplane <(that has not been decided but is suspected) because of it.

RADAR!, use it, love it, live it! Oh... and it doesn't do any good if you disregard it because you're in a hurry!

Ah, yeah and how many of the thousands were AWA aircraft diverting around the weather? Quite a few. Hence why.....you're a retard. Does your mom know you're up this late on the computer?

So you went straight from flying the San Antonio Sewer tube at Ameriflite to AWA...typical.

Did AWA teach you how to work a radar?

okcplt,

Sounds like you didn't make it through the AWA interview. Did the "reavey-weave" get the best of you? Good luck with your emotional issues. You might want to check with your health provider about getting some counseling.

Good luck.

Naw...it's just that one of my good friends was hurt on the job and I want make sure she gets the best care available. And I want to especially make sure it was not caused by negligence.

Nope, nice try never worked at Ameriflight. Not that there's anything wrong with them. I'm sure 99% of them could fly circles around you. Thank goodness whe didn't hire you.

Oh, I'll beat you to the reply. Something like flying circles around thunderstorms....blah, blah, blah.
