This topic has been discussed before, and I have considered doing it. I stopped however, to ponder the chocie you must make when doing so. You can choose to have your SSAN removed from the license, but remain in the FAA records as an identifying number, or you can choose to have it removed completely from everything, and then promise to never use your SSAN on anything FAA-related again, including the Medicals.

Has anybody encountered difficulties with the second choice, a la, renewing medicals? I'm inclined to choose "remove from everything" but I don't want to cause future paperwork problems.

Anybody?

I changed my certificate number back when you first could do it (1 1/2 years ago maybe?), and NO, I haven't had any problems.

Worked fine for me, nothing for the FAA uses my SSN anymore... was suprisingly easy and hassle free! I did mine about a year ago...

Go for it!

How long did it take from requesting it to getting it? I sent my request in about a month ago, just wondering if it'll take a few more. Thanks.
