Island air ???

How many are they hiring? Do they pay during training and do they pay hotel?

Do they pay your airfare out for the interview?

How hard is it to live on the islands, would have a fiancee out there earning some $$$ too.

Thanks!

I received an app in the mail yesterday, based on my resume of 1050TT/203ME.

The info sheet that they provided will allow me to answer a couple of your questions.

"Island Air does not reimburse for transportation, lodging, or incidental expenses."

As far as living in Hawaii, never been there, but I hear that there's a pretty high cost of living. Seems like it would be worth it, though.

As far as your hiring numbers question, I'll leave that for someone who works for the company. Hope this was a help.

I'll field a couple of the questions here.

1) Hiring LOTS of folks. Just do the math, the mins went from 1500/500 to 800/200 in about six months. That wouldn't happen if they didn't need pilots.

2) Nope. They don't pay for your lodging or per diem for training other than time at the sim in SEA. For groundschool you're on your own. You get paid training pay for ground school but that's it.

3) Brah, if you've never been to Hawaii, you'll have sticker shock unless you're living in Manhattan or Tokyo right now. Housing is small, difficult to find and expensive. [Think $700 for a room in someone's house] Groceries, gasoline, and.....well, everything is more than you'll pay most places on the mainland. But it's the price of paradise.

4) As far as your salary making ends meet, it's probably not going to happen unless you marry money or live in your car. Your $12k a year would go MUCH further in a place like Akron or Pittsburgh. Of course, then you'd be living in Akron or Pittsburgh.......

5) Do some serious calculations before making the move out here. It's not something you can take casually. Shipping your car from the mainland, shipping the rest of your stuff, flying out (on your own $$) and finding a place to live will take some financial planning. Some folks don't stay because of these factors. Moving to a place like Houston for CoEx is not nearly as difficult or as much of a gamble.

Good luck to anyone trying but be sure you know what you're getting into.

Hiring

Company planning 15 planes within the next 8-12 months.

5 planes currently with about 50 line pilots or about 10 pilots/plane

15 planes should give us a need for about 150 pilots give or take...need to have a net increase of 100 pilots over the next 8-12 months so at least 8-12 a month for the next year...not counting attrition.

That is a LOT of hiring for an airline this small.

Good luck

I will never understand this multi-time thing. They turned me down at 1100/120 and are now hiring 800/200. Makes no sense. However, I suppose they did me a favor, because I don't see any possible way to pay my own way out there for the interview, put down deposit and one month's rent, move my car across the ocean, etc, etc.

holy crap .. I just checked UPS Ground to send a 5 lbs. package to HI from CA .. $10,000!

I guess thats the cost of getting a UPS guy to drive his truck along the ocean floor all the way to Hawaii. Underwater gas stations must charge a lot too.

(No joke .. I guess the UPS shipping calculator has the bug in there on purpose)

If you get hired by WP, you use your jumpseat privs to fly back and forth and keep transfering yer crapola one suitcase at a time. Duh.

Its putting yer car back together thats a real bi+ch.

Great idea if you happen to work for United or American. Otherwise plan to spend a few days in LAX trying to get a seat.
