Hey y'all...

I'm an instrument rated pilot moving to a new area (SoCal) and thus looking to switch schools to get my multi- and commercial... Problem is that I've been Part 141 and would like to continue on that path. People are telling me, as the FARs say, that I'm going lose something like 50% of my total hours for switching schools. Any of you know more about this and are willing to explain it to me? I'm not in the middle of getting a rating or anything...I've just finished instrument and have 130 cum hrs.

Thanks for any and all help!

Here's how it works:

You can carry in ALL of your current flight time, provided it does not exceed 50% of the NEW school's course.

Suppose you are transferring to a new school, and the course is 150 hours, for example. You can credit up to 75 hours of your current time.

Suppose you transfer into an instrument curriculum that is 40 hours. Suppose you have 15 hours of IFR training. You can transfer the entire 15 hours. If you have more than 20, only th first 20 can transfer.

Here's the catch: The CFI giving you the avaluation flight can give you up to the max, but they can also say you get less if they don't think you are up to speed.

Discuss the details carefully and make sure you and your new school see eye to eye before laying down your money.
