Ok so i had planned on doing my license conversions TCCA(Canadian)-->FAA in december and it probably would have costed me a couple thousand dollars to do the flight tests and writtens and what not. Just when im ready to go i hear a new program has apparently been approved by both the FAA and Transport Canada and will be effective as of December 1/06. This new program apparently consists of only having to write the airlaw exam in the other country to get your Commercial/Instrument converted and other type ratings such as Multi or any type ratings you have will automatically be transfered. This stands to save me a bunch of money and time so i am very curious of how and what this will include.
From what i have heard these will be stand alone licenses/certificates (need not have your TCCA or FAA license present when using your converted license) which is important for me to get when i get my FAA licenses because i am an American citizen and i dont want a Canadian license restricting me. I think this is a great program for both countries since you can transfer type ratings back and forth with ease and the old system just made you jump through expensive hoops to convert before which only benifited the flight schools who made the $$.
Anyhow my point is i have tried contacting the FSDO offices and searching the fAA website and i can find nothing on this program and nobody seems to know anything about it. Does anyone knwo anymore about this program because i kinda need to know soon cause i was ready to flush my money down the toilet on the expensive hoop jumping.
Here is the link i found on it on the Transport Canada website. It shows this program is coming into effect and its on their official site so im assuming its going through.
