Yep, it's true...GSO and MCO (or possibly TPA) in June with lovely JFK in August. I suspect that many of the originally displaced FL folks will bid MCO. I don't know how this new base size compares to the original base size however.

30 crews to MCO or TPA in june. Location is to be announced. 30 crews to GSO in june. 70 crews to JFK in august. They (Fred and Oz) announced it last week or was it already 2 weeks ago? Just a caveat, never be the 1st to go any where in this biz!

Could a newbie get JFK? What are competitive times to get hired?

I got called for an interview a couple days after sending in my resume. 3200 total, 3000 PIC, 570 multi, ATP, no real turbine experience, current 135 job. Whether or not I get the job is another story but at least they want to meet me. I'm sure they are calling people with less time than me.

What are the chances of a new hire getting cvg, or anyplace other than jfk?

If the previously mentioned numbers are correct I'd say pretty easy to get CVG unless they don't have anyone bid the other domiciles. Only 130 crews (260 pilots) out of 1700ish (??) still means the vast majority will be CVG.

New hires going to JFK! Your chance of getting CVG as a new hire are going to be slim. Even though the bid was for 70 crews for JFK, I would bet my left nut that soon after the new CRJs starting showing up another bid will come out for another 100+ crews for JFK.

Precluding any rumors on future aircraft deliveries, what is the upgrade time to Captain?

without deliveries, you won't upgrade for decades. 1800 guys already here, and attrition doesn't count for much.

even with deliveries, if you're hired before the new jets get here, you'll have about 400 pilots junior to you in 2008, out of 2200 total.

I actually heard this from one of the CPs. He said that JFK will be built up over a 6-12 month peried to approx 200 crews if the plan in place now works out.

Is the CVG base going to shrink much? Or will all the new bases will be growth?

CVG will shrink initially... When we start getting additional aircraft, it'll probably grow again somewhat.

The only people who really know the master plan aren't talking to us just yet.

I agree with broke in CVG that this intial bid for JFK, MCO GSO is just a start with more being based in the new domicles sometime soon to follow with alot more being based in JFK. What happens if no Captains bid for CA for JFK and only a few FO's bid for it? does the company then Junior man the most junior qualified FO to CA in JFK?? and if that happens will the Junior CA in CVG be forced to the right seat if they dont take CA in JFK, otherwise there will be 100 extra CA in CVG??

I don't think they would create that many CA positions, it would go by your standing bid, if you can't hold what you want, maybe your second choice......
