Anybody know yet what type rating is required? I am really hoping the CL-604 ticket will work.

Come on Meathead, whats another three week initial?!?! :D

I believe the Gulfstreams are a common type in Plainview. Dassault is a different story. The 2000 type and DA2EASy type are separate, at least for now. DFJ is trying to convince the FAA/EASA to make it an "EASy" type with a difference course for the 2000/900/7X. I'm hearing it's been a hard sell but a "fly on the wall" tells me it may happen early this year.

Since the 605 is just a 604 with Proline 21, I would think that's an easier sell to the feds...

Proline 4 to Proline 21 is no big deal.

Heck, you can take a 20 year old (insert airplane) and slap proline 21 in it and go fly. And this has been done on different airframes. None required a new type that I'm aware of.

yes i have heard from several reliable sources it is the same type as the CL604............. not really sure why they built the 605,,,,,,,,,, they need to extend the range or beef up the gross weight of the cl604

Amen, brother!

Does anyone know why they changed the name of the 601 to the 604 and wanted it to be a different type all together? It has to do with Bill Lear, even though he was dead when they did it.

Another big reason was the redesign of the cabin. Many complaints from prospective buyers (including my boss) was the small windows and the placement of the windows. To look out the windows you must stoop your head down in the Challenger. In the Gulfstream and Falcon the windows are at eye level. I am sure that they are working on quiting down the cabin. While it is quiet, you still have a constant beat of N1 or N2.

Either way, should be another great airplane.

A new APU? Are you implying you don't like the 'auto trip' feature that actuates when the first PAX hits the FBO door at PHX or LAS? What would a summer be like without that?

Challenger 605 Enters Flight Test[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
Bombardier’s Challenger 605, announced at the 2005 NBAA Convention, made a nearly 3.5-hour maiden flight on January 22 in Montreal. “The first flight went very well,” pilot

Frank Magnusson told AIN. “There were no surprises at all.” The length of the flight was longer than typical. Said Magnusson: “The airplane performed flawlessly so we just kept going” and ended as sunset approached. The Challenger 605, which is replacing the 604, features Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics and upgraded cabin features, including new windows that are larger and raised about five inches. Magnusson said the new avionics “looked just great, especially the electronic charts.” He also noted that production 605s will be about 200 pounds lighter than 604s. A common 604/605 type rating transition course of two days will initially be conducted in Montreal. Certification of the 605 is expected in the fourth quarter.

Do you know if a new APU will be offered on the 605 ?

It is standard on the 605 (and the last couple of 604 manufactured)
