Well stated. In The Art of War, written over 2,000 years ago, Sun Tzu states: "It is only one who is thoroughly acquainted with the evils of war that can thoroughly understand the profitable way of carrying it on."
It is clear who has the most to loose here, and although it is a scary time for the crews, I agree with you - get down and dirty - don't let them drive the boat.
