I sent in my resume via e-mail last week, and while I'm waiting, I was looking over the gouge on aviationinterviews.com, and came across an entry stating not to fly the right seat in the sim, any ideas on why not? Also, any info in general would be appriciated - Thanks!

Dennis,
I interviewed last November, and if I remember correctly, you can fly from either seat. The right side is glass/EFIS, and the left is standard gauges. Fly from wherever you'll be most comfortable, and the display is probably more important than which seat you sit in. A lot of the folks on aviationinterviews say that the sim is tough--the key is keeping a really good crosscheck going, and using CRM/your sim buddy. I didn't think it was too bad, just a little squirrelly. Most of the gouge on that site is very good interview prep for the NJA interview. Good luck!

Thanks, I was hoping that was the case and not some kind of psych thing...hey he picked the right seat, he doesn't want to be a captain....I am flying EFIS now, and was thinking if I make it that far I would want the right seat for that reason.

I flew the right seat for that same reason. They hired me. Some of the interviewers will try and tell you not to fly in the right seat. If you do the sim with Jerry M. he will tell you it doesn't matter, fly from whatever seat you are comfortable in. Don't worry about the right seat, it really makes no difference.

It's harder to fly from the right seat, because if you want to bug anything you have to reach around in front of the yoke to do it. For me it was easier to use the steam gauges and let your partner bug everything for you - the knobs for the left seat bugs are in the throttle quadrant.

To add to Ultra Grump's post, use your fellow crewmember! In addition to BAIF, the sim evaluators are also looking for CRM. Don't fail the sim ride because you or your partner entered the hold incorrectly and the pilot-not-flying didn't say anything. The most perfectly-flown ILS won't matter much to the evaluator if the CRM side of the equation isn't there.
