I've heard that LAX and CMH are the quickest domiciles to get an interview for. However, once you are hired and placed in LAX for example, how long do you have to wait before you can transfer to a more senior base such as DAL?

It should be dependent upon bids, so the length of time would vary as a result. New openings in the current 5 dumb-a-ciles are to be offered to pilots on the seniority list before being offered to new-hires.

It doesn't work like the airlines - we don't "hold" domiciles, and there aren't really "senior" domiciles. For example, if you were hired into the Ultra in LAX, and while in indoc a bid came out for DAL-based Ultra FOs, you could change to DAL provided nobody senior to you wants it. There is no way to tell how many folks want to change to DAL in that scenario, so there is no way to tell you how senior you'd have to be. In the FO awards that have come out, people seem to rarely change domiciles.

The only for-sure way to get the domicile you want is to get that domicile in your initial job offer. It would be quite risky to come here and then hope that you quickly get the domicile you really want shortly after indoc.

Thanks for the info guys. I dont really know much about NJA's bidding process, and I've never worked for an airline, so the entire idea is foreign to me.

I live in DAL, and I know it takes forever to get an interview for that domicile, so Ive been considering applying for LAX with the hopes of moving back to DAL after having been online for a while.

Don't be suprised if it takes a longer than you suspected to move back to DAL.

Here is how I understand this....

Say you want DAL but get hired into LAX flying the Beechjet. As long as you have a standing bid for DAL, you should get transfered to DAL before any newhire gets hired into same plane and same base.

Again, if you get hired into the Beechjet for LAX, but you want DAL, they may not hire Beechjet DAL pilots for 2 years. Maybe hire Falcon or Hawker, then you might be SOL.

The only other way to switch domiciles is to find another SIC in the same fleet who has the domicile that you want. In that case, you can swap domiciles with him/her, assuming that that person wants your current domicile. For a swap, all that you have to do is notify the company - no bidding involved.

But with that said, it's a long shot and I've not heard of anyone swapping domiciles though it is allowed.
