Does NetJets allow their pilots to do contract flying on days off? How about flight instructing or other forms of commercial flying? Anything in the union agreement or company policy regarding this?

It used to be no big deal, but now they are saying no based on "ethics". I assume they see any flying outside NJA as potential competition. I don't think there is anything in the contract. Last recurrent gave me a kind of "on your honor" feel.

I think this is wrong. I think you can fly outside of NJs. You can not fly on a "sell-off" flight for NJs, or a competitor. But part 91 flying is ok.

note...there was a lot about ethics, but I think that was other stuff, ie...fbo freebies stuff (raffles).

As I write this, I do know for fact it is ok....I know 3 guys that fly outside of NJs.

The ethics department needs to read the FOM. There is nothing there that will not allow you to fly on your off hours. You need to be approved, and you can not fly for someone in direct competition for NJA.

Everything is in direct compitition with NetJets unless it's part 121.

Can't agree with you on that one. I know of a few guys who still fly part-time at small cargo operations on their days off in order to keep some jumpseat privileges. I don't see how a cargo operator is in "competition" with NetJets.

Flight instructing is in direct competition to NJA? I gotta hear the reasoning on this! What about military reserve flying on the weekends?

I had recurrent in March, and it was pretty clear that any part 91 flying is okay. I believe they consider part 135 trips, or flying for another fractional on 91K trips, to be in direct competition with NJA.

And although cargo wasn't specifically mentioned, I'm pretty sure even under 135 it wouldn't be considered any sort of competition with NJA whatsoever.

Use a little common sense. As someone else mentioned, it is the honor system, and they have no way of tracking what you do on your days off unless you show up somewhere to fly an NJA selloff.

If you do other commercial flying, I believe you also have to fill out a form out of the FOM stating you time monthly spend in commercial flying. This is so they can track the legalities for your 135 flight time limits.

I have not done any outside commercial flying however, so I just remember what I saw in the FOM/Recurrent training.

Yup, I started class back in January, and all I needed to do was to get a "verbal OK" from my ACP, and was told that any type of flying is approved as long as it's not in direct competition with NJA. I told them I would be flying 135 on-demand cargo and PAX. No big deal, apparently.

verbal "ok"? Gotta love these company procedures that are just made up by someone covering their arse. Not you pilot125 but whomever told you that was full of BS.

you can fly it just report it at the end of the month and watch your total flight time.

A verbal ok at this company is worth about as much as promise to give you longer crew rest.

"if it ain't written it doesn't exist"
