Are the fractional share that customers hold in Netjets basically the same as a flying club that also happens to provide pilots? Can buyers finance their purchase of a share, or are they required to come up the price in cash on their own?

Some finance through banks and NetJets also has a program for financing owners inhouse. I have no idea how many finance and how many just pay the whole amount for their share right away. It's not really a flying club, but like a time-share scheme where you own a portion, but may never even use that particular airplane that you own. You own a piece of an airplane and that ownership share gives you access to the rest of the fleet. There are a few owners who are pilots and like to fly themselves, but they are required to do all the same training and recurrents as the normal pilots and they are required to fly with a check-airman when they do decide to fly themselves.

OMG. There isn't enough money in the world to get me to take THAT job! In order for some dork gabillionaire to think he has any business flying the toy he bought he would need the most massive ego this side of God. I can't imagine how poorly he would react to the Checkairman saving his life / license. I can't believe this happens or is allowed.

OMG,,,flying an airplane isn't that difficult. The decision making process and all that goes along with it is what is gained by experience..... I'm pretty sure a checkairman, or any pilot at NJA (or any company) could "babysit" efficiently enough.....And these gabillionaires are in deed pilots already. Maybe not seasoned jet pilots, but pilots none-the-less...They may need a bit more monitoring out of busy airspace/departures, but out of Evansville, Indiana I'm pretty sure they could handle the t/o and landing uneventfully.

Who would you rather sit next to.....a 250 hr kid out flight instructing, or an owner who has voluntarily gone through the exact same Flight Safety program, probably on his own dime, because he truly enjoys aviation.

I'd actually enjoy flying with an owner. And apparently the owner/pilots we have are quite enjoyable to be around. Who knows what kind of knowledge that could be gained from sitting next to an owner for a couple hours. (I'd love to be able to pick the brain of people with a lot of wealth and the know how of how to get there).

Now flying the Piaggio, probably way to high tech for an owner:D

Well said.

I've met one of our owner pilots and talked with him at length. He's a very sharp guy with thousands of hours of flight time -- I wouldn't hesitate for a second to fly with him.
