Hey, if I were a Captain at an airline and had 20-odd years flying there, I'd want my qualified kid to at least have an in for an interview. If you expressly forbid his/her employment at my company, it's discrimination. How much more fair is it for a Captain to get his buddy an interview, but another Captain can't get his own kid an interview? I'm against hiring anyone unqualified, but it's way unfair to bar employment based on relationship.
I've recently been in a long line for an interview at an airline that is hiring lots of relatives. More power to 'em. I have no problem with it at all, so long as those pilots are qualified. So I can say this as a person sitting on the side and watching folks with much less experience than me getting interviews. The children, wives, or whatever of current employees deserve a shot and their relatives' service to the company ought to be worth something.
Standing by for the barrage of dissenting views...
Ya know Hugh... your next airline used to be a big anti-nepotism airline. If your relative worked there, you could forget about working there until your relative retired. This changed pretty recently.
On the other hand, if your daddy flew for Hawaiian, and you just got your ink-still-wet temporary commercial multi instrument ticket and FE written you'd be a golden boy. I heard they were having a lot of problems with those guys when they started upgrading to FO's.
