I was wondering what is the best thing to put for EAD (enter active duty) address on the Form 53. I have no idea when I'll be starting so I can't really say if it will be easier to move from my permanent address or my on campus address. Just wondering what worked for those of you that have gone through this before. Thanks a lot.

EAD

Right now I am an ADD Lt. at my school. I put my permanent address down as my place that I was moving from. I'm here for about another month and then off to Vance. I plan on doing my DITY move to Vance from here. Just my experience.

think long term

Rather than worry too much about moving now when you probably can fit most of your stuff in the trunk of a car, think about 10 years or 20 years from now when you get out. The address you put as your 'home of record' (if that is what we're talking about here) determines where the military will ship all the stuff you've acquired once you get out. They will either ship it to your home of record or the place where you entered the military (Annapolis, Pensacola, Parris Island) something like that. So, if your home and college are close, no big deal, but if they are a few states away, depending on what direction you could find yourself one day wanting the military to move you back to your hometown but be 300 miles short on shipping charges (and you'll have a housefull of stuff and kids probably by then).

Address

Actually, after 11 years it won't matter. The military will ship your stuff to wherever you want (for officers). It becomes an issue when things don't go as planned (elimination from pilot training). You won't have enough time in service to move where you want. In that case, your authorized travel expenses, and your carload of stuff, only to the address on your form. So if you don’t want to move back to college, select a more desirable location.

Don’t forget to get your “truck” weighed before you move. The AF will pay you to move your stuff. The only rule is it has to be a truck style vehicle. That little girlie VW won’t cut it.

I think the AF has gotten rid of this rule when it comes to DITYs. It used to be that you had to have a truck, but I'm pretty sure they changed it to allow any vehicle.

Check your local TMO, though...
