Oshkosh airshow or Dayton, Ohio Airshow?

I have a chance to go to one or the other. I have never been to either one.

Unless the Dayton Airshow suddenly added a "hot naked chicks flying Extra 300's" routine, I'm surprised you're not already reviewing your Oshkosh NOTAM's...

One would expect Dayton to be extra special this year with the aniversary and all. Oshkosh can wait.

quick back round

The Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Snowbirds are all going to be in Dayton the week before Oshkosh starts.

I would have to say Dayton...this year anyway. Plus you have one of the best air museums right there at Wright-Pat AFB

Dayton

I'm going to speak a little bit of blasphemy here on this board but quite frankly I'm bored with Oshkosh and Sun'n-fun.

I'm a little burned out though after chasing the Aerobatic champions around the country for quite a while, I've probably seen something like 200 airshows. From Reading to Farmville to Oshkosh to Reno to Titusville to Lakeland to Andrews, etc, etc.

Dayton is a little different because it is a Military Hardware Sales event. I went one year and there were Saudi shieks getting up close and personal with Cobras, F-16's, etc. Very interesting. A mini Farnborough/Paris show - Dayton has always been a favorite in my heart.

So if you've been to a bunch of shows, Dayton. If you've never been to an Oshkosh - well you gotta go just once!

I've been to sun n fun 4x, it's tiring and at certain times, boring. At the end of the day you're dead tired, dusty (the parking lot is a dust bin) and sunburned. And after all that complaining, I still keep coming back!!!

I think seeing the floatplanes would be really cool, if you're into that. They have a parallel show running next to oshkosh, amphibs and floatplanes, forgot how many that show up.

If you want to see the military jet teams then go to Dayton. I don't see any of the military jet teams on the Oshkosh program, but then I don't see any jet powered biplanes on the Dayton program.

If you want total aviation immersion from dawn to midnight then go to Oshkosh.

Dayton is an airshow. Oshkosh has five airshows, along with hundreds of other aviation related experiences.

I'm a big forum junkie, for example. There's nothing like Bert Rutan's tent shows to get you feeling good about the future. Bert is speaking four or five times this year. He always has some new bit of Alien technology to announce.

Curious about Jep charts v. NOS? The guy in charge of both chart services gives a seminar.

Bose v. Lightspeed? Garmin v. UPS? Cessna v. Piper? Each are there in force with forums and demostrations.

Eclipse 500 - the Next Big Thing or another dot-bomb? Ask their CEO at his forum.

Have a medical question? Ask the FAA's chief flight surgeon at his forum.

Mad at the FAA? Complain to the Administrator at her forum.

At Oshkosh there are four big hangers full of the latest aviation toys. There is also a huge flea market where you can get last years toys in the bargain bins.

Oshkosh is way more than just an airshow.

I just forgot...if you wanna watch the airshow while swimming on the beach and downing beers, Fort lauderdale air & sea show is the way to go. (1st weekend of may) It's on the beach, not at the airport, so no static displays but lots of babes!
It's all military, except for a few stuntmen and stearmans making smoke.

ok there goes a plug for my town. ;)

Go for Dayton, where all the mil stuff is. You can watch a person fly a pitts or stearman or extra around at a local airshow, and if you've seen one you've seen 'em all. IMHO it is way more cool to see a Viper do horizontal cuban-8's with vapor trailing off the wings than to see Patty Wagstaff do that tumbling thingie.
