Anyone have a recommendation when choosing between the Jeppesen Professional logbook or the ASA Master Pilot logbook? What kind are you using and what do you like/dislike about it?

I've finally filled up my old circa 1990 Jepp basic logbook and need a new one. I don't want a computer logbook and need one that I can keep track of different PIC time (i.e. turbine, multi-engine etc.) for job hunting purposes. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Logbooks

I have the Jepp Professional logbook, the one with the nice brown cover, green pages, and little piece of gold leaf upon which you can place your signature on the front cover. I like it. It has adequate blank columns, pre-printed squares in the back for comp checks, flight reviews, and miscellaneous signoffs. The book has adequate lined pages in the back. If you run a line down the middle of the page you will have plenty of spaces to maintain your student signoff records.

No one really cares which make or brand of logbook(s) you use. People do care that it is accurate, current and well-kept. If there is a time to be anal, now is the time.

Big Logbook

I have used for several years the (former) Stafford Logbook. It is now owned by the guy who makes those "The Best IFR Hood" paper IFR hoods (Bill Weder), but the Ph# is (888)7LOGBKS.

It has columns for simple SE, Complex SE, Twin ME, 3 or more Engines ME, Helicopter, Single SEA, Multi SEA, Sailplane, a couplr more blank ones, actual ifr, hood ifr, PIC, SIC, Dual, CFI, solo(outdated), XC, Night, Simul., Engine&HP, Miles flown.

I've greened out some to rubber stamp in FE, Flight #, Lndgs D/N, Type tow, and release alt/Max alt.

has lots of memo pages, aircraft flown pages in back, rating record in front.

get him to send you a xerox of a sample page. nice guy.

I like the Jepp

I use the brown Jepp one that Bobby speaks of. The black master log has a lot of blank columns, but I think that you have to write in even the basic stuff like SEL or MEL.

Thanks for all of the input. I've always been anal about my logbook for the 14 years I've been flying. I've been leaning towards the Jepp Professional and I'm glad to hear the positive feedback from all of you. Thanks for the help.

After flipping through the Jepp logbook and all of the other ones on display, I settled on the same style as my previous book: The blue ASA standard logbook. Why? Because the Jepp book would be falling apart by the time I got through 14 years of flight time in it. Maybe when I get to the point of filling out the book every other year it'll be time to get the pro book.

I also keep a computer log, just for keeping insurance companies happy. Yes, I do have 48 hours of C-336 cross country flight time while on an IFR flight plan with no more than one landing per airport while delivering equipment so sensitive that 1.5 g's would knock them out of calibration. I also have 23 ILS approaches logged while sitting next to a guy named Tom, of those approaches 18 were when he had bad breath, 3 were when he used Scope, and two were when he used Listerine. Any more questions? :D

I bought the big ASA just because I had the blue one and It was easier transition. I liked the Jepp too but I wasnt used to it and I hate to make mistakes when filling the book so I bought the ASA.

For those of you that have lots of different a/c experience such as seaplane, tailwheel, glider, jet, turboprop, ect, ect, may I suggest the "Senior Pilot's Log" from Sporty's. its got all the usual columns pre-inked, but the whole right side of the page is blank columns for your customizing. I've found it to be a great book, and The binding is also superior.
