It is being reported that last evening an admitted error with ATC allowed a UAL flight to go nose to nose with a Mexicana flight. Aircraft were inside one mile apart when the UAL pilot acted upon the TCAS alert.

Weather at the time was very poor...

Details to follow...

Mexicana

Everyone on ground control, hold your position....

Mexicana, taxi to the gate.

yea, blame the mexicans, as if the US doesn't have its share of idiots

Chill out, bud, it was a joke. Do you try turning everything into a way to attack America?

LOL!! That's good!

In '92 I visited the ORD TRACON and talked to the people there.

They confirmed (then), that Mexicana gets greater seperation because of their frequent inability to follow ATC instructions.

Shortly thereafter, I was nearly rundown in an ATR by one of their 727's over BDF when they failed to slow to 170 after being instructed to do so (they even acknowledged the clearance).

Don't know about current seperation and procedures, but this doesn't surprise me.

Persoanlly, I wouldn't put my Airedale on Mexicana at gunpoint.

"Royer" !

Anyone who doesn't get the Mexicana joke has obviously never flown into ORD. I have only been there twice, but true to form on one of my two visits ground reported Mexicana is lost on X taxiway between Y and Z intersection, and everyone was warned to look out.

"Mexicana, your crossing restriction @ LANDER is 14thousand"

response from mexicana: "sometimes you make it... sometimes you don't"

Talk to someone who has done contract training for those guys. Ask them what they thought was in the envelope that the chief pilot hands to the examiner before the checkride.

Then you figure who has the greater share of idiots.

Well - obviously you've never spent much time in the SW US!!! ;) "X-ray" and "Juliet" are "Hotel" and "Romeo" is "R-R-R-R-R-omeo" to them! si?!

i fly into mexico quite a bit, and trust me, when i'm there, i feel like the idiot. sure they have to be able to speak and understand english, but, jesus.. i have a hard time speaking and understanding o'hare-english. just imagine if english wasn't your first language!

Sure! There's a crossing restriction at Amigo (no joke) intersection going into LAX. The running joke here is the same. "Hey Mexicana are you going to make that crossing restriction at Amigo? "Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. Some thing else you hear in LAX........."Korean......where are you going?"

AF:D

I still get a chuckle out of someones post over on another string here...
ORD ground: "Mexicana take a left on taxiway ___ ."

(pause)

Mexicana!!! Don't turn there...that's a ROAD !!!

lol

Well, nothing personal against mexicans, but I have seen Mexicana's adventures firsthand. They flew into MDW for a while (I'm not really sure when they stopped), and when the ILS 31C circling approach to 22L was in progress, you were sure to see something interesting. Anyways, we were behind a Mexicana on approach, and instead of turning north towards downtown Chicago and then the usual left base to 22L, they turned south to who-knows-where and ATC freaked out and said something to the extent of "Mexicana, where are you going?! Never mind, climbandmaintain 3000 contact approach 118.4..."

You could add Aeromar (are they still in business?) to that mix down here in Texas. Once while flying into SAT in a King Air during VMC, we excepted a parallel approach to 30R so they could land an Aeromar ATR on the left. The ATR was comming in slightly faster than us and it appeared they were trying to make up some time since they did not slow down until they passed over the fence. We touched down and were well into the rollout and noticed that the ATR looked like it was trying to get an "Okay 3-wire" on an aircraft carrier. They managed to touch down in somewhere around the last 2,500-3000 feet - with a nice bounce  - of a 8,500 foot runway. Fortunately they did not have to worry about getting lost as all they had to do was turn left at the end and taxi back to the terminal!
