Allcon,

NBC nightly news is about to do a segment on the industry. Just in case anyone wants to tune in.
(Dec 27 6:30 EST)

Yep, Saw it....NBC is predicting: US Air, ATA and Independence Air gone in 2005. I hope they're wrong.

I did not see the report, but do they know something we don't? How are they saying ATA will be gone in2005 with Luv on their side? It must be a mistake, the saving was posted all over this site.

Its all media hype....Don't think they know anything we don't or they would have repoted it in BIG letters.;)

I saw it. Yeh, right. ATA Ceo wants out of the airline industry and they say 'it may not survive'. Now there's a news agency for you.

You didn't miss anything. 1000's were delayed or lost their bags over the long holiday weekend due to weather, computer glitches, and employee illness....so they are obligated to 'report' something (and catch your attention so you watch the sponsors)

Once again, a totally non factual, simplistic, ideology based 2 minute segment on how airlines with bad finances may not make it.

Do you think SWA is better off with ATA in business or ATA gone?

75m- Southwest is 'better off' being the winner of the assets that were auctioned off in bankruptcy court. Are they better off with ATA still in business? Yes, because ATA submitted to the court that they have no desire to fly regularly scheduled ops out of MDW airport. Yes, because Southwest will in effect rent seats on ATA aircraft and really put pressure on ORD airport departures through more seats available til they get their own a/c flying. Yes, because as long as some employees are left working for the skeleton that will be ATA, that means less bad news will hit the Public Relations fan after the city of Chicago says bye bye to one company and its employees and hands over a nice chunk of gates to Southwest...this will 'look' better to the politicians (and ATA mgmt.) while it slowly dissolves to it's former charter self. In conclusion, there are many more reasons, for the short term, for ATA to 'stay in business'.

Megadeth: eggzactly! (thnks for making me laugh sometimes)

Trance,

So what yer sayin' is SWA is better off with ATA around for the short term. Granted. What about the long term?
