How come hundreds of thousands of immigrants can come together and stage a national walkout on a day but 50000 airline pilots cant get together to do the same thing? I think that a one day no fly day would help the public and management understand how critical air transportation is to the nation and if the downword trend on wages continues, there will be fewer and fewer people willing to put up with the schedules and regulation. Think about it.

spelling mistakes not my fault.

Probably not the right forum, but.....

The walkout is scheduled for Monday, May 1st. I'm guessing many participants are probably going to take off work on Cinco de Mayo as well, which is Friday.

I hope employers lock out all employees on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday who walkout on Monday. I also hope all employers who are employing illegal immigrants lock them out until they can prove they are here in compliance with U. S. immigration laws.

Congress really needs to get busy and pass laws making it a criminal offense to employ illegal aliens and to establish a guest worker program to fill the jobs that need to be filled. Otherwise, the entire country is going to wind up like Miami after the Mariel Boatlift when more than 125,000 mostly poor Cubans including 800-900 criminals were dumped in South Florida. I think it's safe to say that although many educated middle-class Cubans have assimilated very well into US culture many under-educated lower-class Cubans have not assimilated well at all.

I wonder what role leftwing PAC's such as moveon.org are playing in organizing this walkout?

Because they would all be fired.

Every single airline pilot would be fired? I know there are a lot out on furlough, but I doubt there are enough to cover every single airline pilot job out there.

The walkout seems like it could be a good idea, something to get the industry a little stirred up in our favor. It would suck for it to backfire in our faces, i.e the controller strike all those years ago.

Illegal Aliens have a stronger Union: The Democrat Party.

Didn't stop Reagan from firing all the air traffic controllers.

Besides, not all the pilots would participate.

I vote Repub, but sadly both parties only pay lipservice to us voters. I no longer consider Bush to be a Republican as he has outspent *ANY* "spend-o-crat" in history. He has vetoed NO spending bill.

Problem is that our "representatives" and I use that term loosely are upper class people who enjoy the benefits of these undocumented workers. It is the working class that pays for the social services of these people (which the ones employing them should be paying) and in the end suffer from wage competition. Working class people would be better off (in some situations) renouncing their U.S. citizenship but still work here, just like the illegals.

Americans scoff at the idea of National Healthcare coverage, yet these illegal workers show that there already is a system in place. It is the taxpayer and employers who offer healthcare coverage that pick up the tab.

15 million undocumented, unscreened people living here is HUGE problem.

HEY, I just want you guys to know, I'm ready to go on strike. Better pay, more equality, longer hours, hotters stewardesses, all those things worth striking for. Even a unilateral one (1) day work stoppage. What say we stop on Monday, May1. Probably to short a notice.
Pick a day. I'm there.

For your consideration

>>I also hope all employers who are employing illegal immigrants lock them out until they can prove they are here in compliance with U. S. immigration laws.<<

What possible motivation would they have to do that, friend? The crooked employers who employ illegal aliens depend on the illegals to increase their profit margins. They are probably negotiating (perhaps "begging" would be a better word) through their Spanish interpreters with their illegals right now in an effort to get them to work, instead of walk out.

>>Congress really needs to get busy and pass laws making it a criminal offense to employ illegal aliens<<

Nothing personal to the poster, but this is the kind of ignorance that is killing our Country by degrees. It is already a crime to employ an illegal alien. You see, the problem is that the Executive Branch of the Federal Government is violating their oath of office, in which the swore to enforce the laws of the land.

In short, we don't need any more laws against illegal immigration; the Executive has absolutely failed to enforce existing laws. This applies to not only the Bush II administration, but every administration, all the way back to Reagan's...and even before.

This could be considered an impeachable offense. Perhaps the threat of impeachment by the conservative wing of the Republicans in Congress, which would give the Democrats who are in favor of impeachment enough votes to get it done, would finally get the attention of George W. Bush. God knows, nothing else has thus far. He continues to fail in his sworn duty, while the Country is slowly burning.

Folks, we need to get smarter concerning our laws, and the real consequences to our economy of having illegal aliens displace American workers, enabled by the crooked employers who hire them.

We are selling out our future for cheap lettuce. It has to stop. If not, this problem will destroy the United States as we know it.

Well i wasnt really trying to debate the immigrant thing here but since it has evolved into that I will join in. Those of you that want the illegal immigrants out, are you willing to pay 10 bucks for a pound of tomatoes? Personally I am and try, not always able, but try to buy stuff that is better quality and made in countries that do not systematically take advantage of the labor force. Does this mean I go seek out a grocery store that has $10 tomatoes? No, but I try to find quality tools, clothing (I will not step foot in a Walmart) etc. This country has larger problems than some illegal immigrants trying to get a better quality of life. I think that this whole debate is like the gay marriage thing a couple of years ago...just a way to get people all fired to go to the polls and vote in more crooked republicans.

spelling not my fault
