I highly doubt this will happen in our lifetime, but just out of curiosity what are your opinions (pros/cons) of having a national pilot seniority list, one list in the country? It’s probably next to impossible with various different pilot unions, but lets just say that it is possible theoretically speaking. Our field of employment is probably the only job area where no matter how much experience you have, if you leave one company for another, you’re right back at the bottom of the totem pole, as if you’ve never had any experience. If you’re a very senior 747 captain and your company goes under, if you decide to stay in aviation, you’d probably be at the very bottom of the pecking order making peanuts at your new employer. Having been in the engineering field prior to aviation, you would leave one job for a better job with a higher salary, better benefits, etc. all which were dictated by your previous experience.

No it isn't.

Every place I ever worked at had new guys start at the bottom, no matter if there was a union at the place or not.

Here's another kicker...you're a sheriff's deputy and you decide to run for sheriff and you get in. Next election comes around in two years and you don't win the election? Guess what? You're out of a freaking job. Losing a Sheriff's election means you are civilian, because most S.O. require you to resign your position to take the job of Sheriff.

You quit as a Lieutenant for the NYFD and go to New Jersey to be a firemaiden...you're taking the entrance exam, just like anyother firemaiden and you'll be at the bottom of the list, just like everyone else.

Airlines aren't the only place where you're the fng when you get hired. Put 10 years in at GM in production and then get laid off and head over to Ford...you'll be doing the grunt work, if you're lucky enough to get your foot in the door.

Deleted.. I'm trying to post on another thread and it keeps ending up here. WTF!
