Can anyone provide some better info on the cargo side of the company (dc8 drivers)---schedule, QOL, pay, ets....having a hard time finding this alone:)

Thanks everyone!!!!!

old friend of mine has just finished IOE, he has the window seat on the right side. starting pay is around 40k a year. ill try to get more info. i know you are on call at some point, but the details escape me at the moment.

Wholy smokes pay for the training on the 8?? I thought it was just CAT....

They recruit the FO's through a company called Aeroservice in Miami. They screen their resumes...and choose the best qualified candidates.....but there is a catch: You have to pay for your own training! And guess where?... At Aeroservice.

You don't buy hours, you just finance your own training till you are in line.

Ask your friend....

Not true. Since there are usually a surplus of DC8 qualified (not necessarily current) crews in MIA, the company tried recruiting down there. There simply is no PFT, and never will be, nor is there any training contract. The state of FL at one point (not sure if it still exists) had a fully funded program for the unemployed (including pilots) to go back to school, and receive additional training. Many pilots used this to go get initial, or additional type ratings, or recurrent training.

Starting pay in the right seat amounts to $37k and some change. 25 hr guarantee for a two week period, at $52/hr, plus a minimal base pay. Flying on days off is all overtime, plus 2 hours extra flight pay. Call out is one hour. Schedule is done on a monthly basis, most get 8-10 random days off per month. QOL is subjective, depending on your background. More days off would be nice, as would a regular schedule, but it's ad-hoc, so that's not really possible right now. Hope this helps.

Detroitpilot is right. There is no PFT at Murray. They hire people with different experience levels. New hires could be pilots with DC-8 time, Murray pilots from the 135 side, and also pilots with no previous jet time. I think they try to get a mixture of pilots, from high to low experience.

It is that unbelievable? Why I can't believe is that after giving detail explanation there is people that refuses to belief...

Well here it goes again:

From Climbto350.com

You can find this ad if you search for November 2nd 2005. It's not the first time I have seen it.
"Aeroservice aviation center is recruiting for DC-8 Captains, First Officers and Flight Engineers for one of its airline customers. DC-8 qualified candidates will be evaluated and considered first. Candidates who do not meet the minimun requirements or who do not have experience in the DC-8,can apply to pre-qualify for the course and enroll at their own expense".

It looks that my 3000 h and my 1000+ PIC turboprop qualified for them but my wallet did not qualify....the company was Murray.
