I have access to an Air Cam, will multi engine time be looked at differently if I use this as my primary source of multi engine time when applying for a job? I am thinking 200-300 hours would be just as good as a seminole or baron? It has Rotax 912S engines?
I can't speak for anyone else, but if you were sitting in the right seat of my Learjet telling me your multiengine experience was in an ultralight type craft, I would be having a pow-wow with you and our chief pilot concerning your qualifications. Nobody is going to take this multi time seriously in this industry. I'd rather fly with a guy that had minimums plus 50 hours of single-engine freight dog time in an old Bonanza than someone with minimums plus 1000 hours of VFR ultralight derivative "multi" time.
An interviewer will eventually ask about the multiengine airplanes you have flown. They typically ask about systems, limitations, autopilots, and flying experience. It sounds like this AirCam is a ultralight (or nearly so) aircraft with very simple systems (fixed gear, fixed prop, VFR, etc). Flying this airplane may be fun, but in the very competitive employment market, other applicants will have flown 'real' twins. Put yourself in the interviewers shoes, would you be impressed by someone with the majority of their multiengine flying experience gained in an ultralight?
thanks guys
I had a gut feeling you were gonna say that, fortunately it's so affordable I will probably do it anyways and still fly the baron and seminole. Here is a pic if you are interested, it is more of a "fun" flying aircraft than a flying capsule. You do need a pilots license, multi engine seaplane, and tail wheel endorsement to fly it, according to the FAA it is to be logged as Multi time, but I realize where you guys arecoming from.
The Air Cam is a blast to fly. I think the only way Air Cam multi time would help is if you are using it to get another light twin job. But if you need hours anyway and it's cheap, go for it....better than sittting at a desk. Are they looking for more pilots to put initial hours on them?
