If you are going to spend the money on renting a twin anyway, why not spend the relatively little extra cost in instruction and get the MEI? If nothing else, it is another box to check on a job application, and it will give you more options in the future.

Agreed. Also don't get your multi rating until you have your CFI and have taught a little. Once you are an experienced instructor, you will also be a much better pilot. You will be able to get your ME rating in less time. Then get the 15 hours of ME PIC time (a requirement for MEI) and get your MEI. If you know someone insurable in the plane but looking to build time you can work on instrument procedures take turns being safety pilot and both log it as PIC, while splitting the costs. You will end up with about 25 hours, be current in the airplane and hopefully insureable.
