I got my multi engine rating about 3 years ago, and haven't logged anytime in one since. I took my BFR about a year ago in a single engine airplane. My question is am I still legal to fly twins? I know that I can't carry passengers, but am I still current as far as being able to fly the twin solo? If not what do I need to do in order to get current in the twin?

Thanks

Your MEL rating never expires. I don't know that after 3 years I would jump right into one and fly around, I'd probably get some dual first to get back up to speed. Right now if you wanted to, you could jump in by yourself and go wherever you wanted, all you need is 3 takeoffs and landings in order to carry pax., full stop at night. Hope that helps.

ok, that's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

I agree with you that I would be sure to get an instructor to go with me before I do any flying in one.

That is three take off and landings in any MEL airplane will cover any MEL airplane not requiring a type rating. Landings for each airplane requiring a type rating must be made in the type rated airplane. I fly the Falcon DA-20 a MEL Jet, the C-47, the DC-9, B-17 and the King Air 90. Since the KA-90 does not require a type rating, my landings in the DA-20, DC-9, C-47, and B-17 count toward landing currency in the KA-90. But my KA-90 landings only count for MEL non-type rated currency. To maintain PIC currency I must make 3 T/O and Land every 90 days in each type rated airplane.

my landings in the DA-20, DC-9, C-47, and B-17 count toward

Did you say B17? As in Memphis Belle, B17?

All right spill it.....What's it like flying the B17????? Some guys have all the luck :)

That is right, a B-17G the "Yankee Lady" of out of YIP of course. I love aviation history, so to fly this machine is fulfillment of a child hood fantasy. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the crewmembers that flew this over Germany in WWII. They were so vulnerable with only 1/16" of Aluminum skin between them and the bullets and flax trying to knock them out of the sky. It is a large stable airplane, easy to fly. It fact so stable that all controls movements require throwing some shoulder into the process to move the airplane. You need tons of rudder to get it to turn. Kinda flies like the Electra boost out. Landings are an area where the airplane is still teaching me things, of course only getting about 12 landings a year doesn't allow time to perfect it.

I hear ya, Pilotyip!!!!

B17 is probably my favorite aircraft from WW II. I love the movie, Memphis Belle, mainly due to the actual footage they use througout the movie.....

And I definately agree with you, regarding the men who flew over Germany........How can you measure that type of courage?!

Thanks for sharing the info, Pilotyip!!! Clear skies to ya!!!
