This may be a stupid question but i have asked a few guys tonight at work that where flying jets and couldnt help me. Since i didnt have a FAR/AIM with me or with me where i am right now i thought i would ask here. Simple question i dont know...If you have your single engine commercial in hand, then go for your mulit-engine rating with instrument add on do you have to do anything different or go for another check ride for a multi commercial, or does it just carry over from your single engine commercial? Thanks for any info.

..Well, there are no stupid questions, but there are questions with insufficient or confusing information which make a real answer impossible.

Here's what I think you want to know: You have a single-engine commercial with an instrument rating. You want to add-on a multi rating. The instrument is implied since you already have it, and you will demonstrate instrument approaches on the ME checkride. Then you have ME, with instrument. priveliges. Is that what you want to know?

Close....i want to know if you have commercial priveliges after you take the ME check ride if you have a CSEL already.

You will perform your ME checkride to either Private or Commercial pilot standards, your choice, and your temp certificate will be issued thus. It is possible to have Commercial ASEL and Private AMEL, but rare since being so rated isn't worth beans.

For ME instrument, count on doing at least one approach hooded with a zero thrust engine.

Correct. In other words, a "normal" ME checkride (to Commercial PTS). You will not have to do the "commercial manuevers" - chandelles, lazy 8s, etc since that has already bean demonstrated on the license. It will be specific to the ME operations, systems, etc. and intrument procedures are thrown in to demonstrate that competance on that rating as it relates to ME operations.

It sounds as though you want to take the Commercial AMEL Checkride. The new PTS provides the framework of what you will need to do.

Since this is an add-on, the only major differences of the Private v. Commercial AMEL add-on: Tolerances.

Again, I think the PTS is a great tool and can give you the specific guidance you need.

Good luck with your future checkride.
