I've also heard Am. Eagle does the same thing.
I just got on with Eagle, had 60 hours of SP time, clearly marked in the comments, and they did not even bring it up.

The 60 was all multi-engine PIC Safety Pilot time?

I've never seen the category of "safety pilot" in any log book. I've seen SIC, PIC, Dual, Total, etc. but never saw a column with the title Safety Pilot. I've also never heard of the FAA calling Safety Pilot a condition of flight such as night, actual instrument, etc.

What Avbug is saying is that there is no requirement to write the term "safety pilot" or have a column titled "safety pilot" any where in your log book. You don't even have to write it in the remarks. It is a term, nothing more.

Just log the time as total and PIC.

Besides, airlines could care less.

Doesn't the name of a safety pilot who is rated and current in the aircraft category and class have to be written in the logbook?

Granted, there is no neon sign saying "safety pilot," but if there is a name written in the comments, isn't that gonna draw attention from an interviewer, especially if the flight was not for dual given?

Don't get me wrong...I don't see a danmed thing wrong with safety pilot time. I split time with a guy who was building toward his instrument while I was building for my commercial....we flew a 24 hour trip from AZ-SD and back, and it was some of the best experience that I had up to that point.

I decided that if anyone ever questioned it, I'd just tell 'em what I wrote above and would not apologize for it.
