Have been furloughed about 4 months now, and getting the itch to get some flying in. I'm wondering what type of instructing opportunities are available around Minneapolis, specifically Flying Cloud, Airlake, or STP.

It's been a year and half since I've done full time instructing, but might be interested in doing something part time, while also working at an FBO or some other airport job. My 9-5 temp job is ending really soon, so I'm exploring what avaiation opportunites are available in the Twin Cities.

Thanks in advance.

I applaud you in keeping your CFI current, but don't you think you are selling yourself short by going back to teaching? Most FBOs in the MSP area are not where a professional aviator wants to be. They are used to hiring hour whores that are airline bound. they will walk all over you or you will quit when you realize you don't fit in anymore.

I'd say head over to STP or FCM and see what you can find in the corporate world. I also heard that Bemidji Airlines was looking for a beech driver for one of their UPS runs out of Minne. There are also a few other freigher ops around too. PM if you want details.

Airlake had a nice flight school run by two guys who went to Mesaba. (this was 2 years ago) Just a couple of 172's, but a good small FBO vibe. Not like Addis at STP (wings) or Thunderbird at FCM.

Are there any schools up at Crystal anymore?

Shamrock is still in operation and doing training at MIC.

Also Scotchman, although I don't know if they're doing training but I assume so. Cheap (relatively) rates on their Duchess, $150/hr or so.

And I hear folks asking to taxi to Academy every day, so it'd appear Academy Flight Operations is still doing training.

Up at Anoka, Knowlton Flight is busy and was just bought by Twin Cities Aviation so there are a couple of SR-20/22s on line along with a few 172s, Warriors and an Arrow.

MIC- there is a school called "north of sixty aviation" i think they are in the old Northland building.

ANE- Knowlton/TCA are the only game in town there. I know there is a citation and lear that are always looking for right-seaters. they pay contract daily rates, not sure on their resume requirements tho.

21D- Valter's Aviation only has 4 instructors online right now and 6 rental birds. They are probably one of the more "grassroots" family style FBO in the cities that I'm aware of right now.
