MSG to Frac pilots esp NJ Crews!

What's that FBO in tetterhole, off on it's own on the south side by the end of the runway. Huge place, very nice with a gym and stuff but set up all wrong.

No dedicated pilot lounge or flight planning computers. I went in there to file / print a flight plan and print a doc off my flash drive. Get to where the computers are and there are three of 'em all lined up...with limo drivers sitting on every one of them.

Pilots know the etiquite (more or less, some need a request, some don't judging from above), but limo drivers have no clue. I didn't even know if those computers were for flight planning!

Then I finally get a computer and they have the computers locked so you can't access your flash drive.

Oh, and the dang sleep room was so dark (different trip through) that I couldn't see enough to find a lounge chair. I was affraid I'd end up sitting on someone.

I just got an Acer Aspire 1 at Best Buy for $349.....very impressive and it runs XP....1GB of RAM, 120 GB hard drive....works great so far. It's tiny....8.9 inch screen and about 2 lbs. Dell also has ultra portables for cheap, but none have CD drive so no DVDs.....kind of a bummer. Maybe a 12" HP or something to watch movies on.

If you need the computer, say so. It's not my responsibility to ask everyone who comes in if they need the computer, if you want to use it, ask and I will gladly let you use it.

Lets look at it from the other side. Maybe you're on crew rot for the day. You've been farting around watching tv, talking on the phone, surfing the internet for the last 8 hours. Every time someone walks in you offer the tv remote if your using it or the internet if you're on the computer. Most importantly, you leave the room when a buddy calls you on the cell. After 8 hours of trying to be polite, you're bound to miss one guy that walks in the room. I have done it myself. I usually ask if the person entering the room needs the comp. The typical answer is "no, thanks".

I find it easier if the other guys just asks to use the comp when I'm done. 100% of the time I jump up right then and let him have it immediately. Think of the crew lounge computer as a pool table. "Can I get in the rotate and play the winner".

I picture this. You're the pilot not flying on short final stewing because your partner (pilot flying) didn't put the gear down and you're to embarressed to say anything. hmmmm.

Next time, please just say something.

Now you are comparing apples to oranges to make a point......that last comment was stupid. I'll accept the other suggestions.

HIJACK ALERT!

Looking for a travel computer. Lightweight, not too big, cheap (hey, I'm a newhire pilot). Just need to do your basic email, surfing, concur and Quicken. Any suggestions?

Then I would not be hogging the FBO computer.

Thats not Hijacking. Thats a fine suggestion. However I do have a laptop already. It's an HP that has turned out to be the biggest POS I've ever purchased. Either way, I'm not going to run out to the plane and pull out my PC, bring it in, est a wireless connection, pull up my sh!t and then find a friggin printer and deal with that. Not practical most of the time.

And now that I have entered this stupid debate, I'll say this...

I will get on any FBO computer I want, lock the door and surf midget porn if I want! If you don't have the balls to ask me to get up, you dont need it that bad. Grow a pair and learn how to say.... "uh, hey excuse me, can I get on there for a second... thanks". Until then you can stare at my shoulders.

Fairly blunt and to the point but.....yeah, same basic sentiment here (except the midget porn. I prefer the fat chick stuff!uke: ). This past tour, I think I only had time to sit at an FBO computer once during the whole week. Took me a while to catch up with emails and other business I do online. If someone had come over and politely asked how much longer I'd be, or if they could jump online for a bit, I would have taken a break from the computer and them have it.

If you aren't mature enough to give me a polite verbal nudge, then I won't know you need it. If you won't say something, I won't be getting off the computer.
