Just wondering if anyone on here flys model airplanes on a regular basis. I have been a radio airplane flyer since I was 12 and I love it to death. Building a P-51 right now and can't wait to get it flying.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone here flys them, maybe we can talk some shop and tell some stories.

Finishing up a Fokker D-VII, Around 1/5 scale.

After that I'm scratch building a 1/3 scale T-28 from a set of Bob Holman plans, 160" (13 ft) wing and about 60-70 lbs (hopefully)!

Not sure what Im going to use for power, maybe 3w-120. Nav lights, rotating beacons, scale retracts and cockpit. I'll be the only one on the block with that size Trojan. It will be swinging a 32" 3-blade prop.

DAmm...that is awsome!!

I have never built anything that big, even though I have always wanted to. I probably will in the next year or so, but I am really wanting to build a larger P-51, the one I am building now is just something to fit in my trunk and go fly with ease, it is only a .15 size, but it is scale. I am wanting to build a 90 size P-51 someday.

Hey if you have kids you can put them in that new plane you are building..haha..only plane I have ever seen that big fly was a C-172 a guy built with a 13ft wing span..he got it up and in his 3rd or 4th turn the wing came off, it was pretty sad and horriffic. After it crashed, no crap, the guy got in his truck and drve off, never said a word and all he had with him was the radio, he just stared at the smoking wreckage for about 30 sec, turned around and got in his car with the transmitter in hand and left and never came back. We went and salvaged all of the stuff and brought it to the next meeting so someone could give it to him, Poor guy, I can only imagine the work that went into that thing..

Hey let me know how the big one works out, wish I could see its first flight..

I've got an ARF Diamona motor glider...

no skill required there to put together...it's hanging from the cieling of the Drop Zone hanger twirling in the breeze. Wish I could give it to somebody that could put it to use. It's electric and never been flown.

I used to love static model building. I could put a camo paint job on a REVELL F-4 Phantom better than the factory.

I'm building a sorrell guppy from plans. You can get in it and drive it around, but it's not far removed from some of the bigger models. All spruce and fabric biplane, with a specially-installed headwind.

I wanna know what you guys are doing on a message board on Sunday. It's so nice out! Go fly or something!

Still have some work left on my plane or I would be out flying!!

Sure was a nice day here also, just hot as hell, got up to 102 today. Glad I wasn't trying to go fly a 150 around for fun, don't think I would have gotten off the ground. haha..

Sigh...it's nice here too. Hot though - 97 or so. I really want to go fly. I need to get into RC flying too - might scratch the itch a bit, and it's cheaper per hour!

Oh it definantly helps when you can't fly regular planes, it is nice cause you can cut up so much more with RC. Even though I have seen some airshow guys that fly Pitts and do stuff in those things I wouldn't do with my RC plane.

Couple of beat up ole Superstar ARF’s. (Those things can really take some punishment!)

My latest baby is a Hanger 9 1/4 Scale J-3 Piper Cub it has a wingspan over 100" making it IMAA legal! Wooohoooo!!!

As you can see my collection is no cold steel exotic and sure as heck cannot hold a candle to the son of Mothra that LR25 plans to build.

Do you guys have any airplane recommendations for someone new to RC flying? Something that'll allow me to build some experience without being SO expensive that I'll cry if I crash it? :D

I've got a few 1/4 scale birds that I need to clean out of my hangar... CAP 232 with G-23 glow power and a 9' span J-3 with a Saito 120. The Cub is so scale it gets second looks because in the air, the casual observer thinks it's real. The CAP is an ARF, but the J-3 is built up from a Sig kit and looks better than anything I've seen so far. I also have an Ultra Stik 120 with a Moki 2.10. Waaaaay overpowered. I'm into electrics and helos now, so the gas stuff is just sitting around. Several computer radois that need a new home too. I guess I need to have an eBay garage sale.

Go to Towerhobbies.com

Definantly get a trainer to start, something small like a 20 size. THe foam wing ones are pretty tough, just buy lots of glue and epoxy cause you will crash it. hha..

THey have some that are almost impossible to tear up, can't remember the name of them though, I'll find it and post it. Get something cheap to learn until you get profeccient, then start building the scale models and pretty ones..

Good luck..You will have a blast!!

Get a Zagi from Trick RC. Very durable, but maybe a bit advanced for beginners. It was my first RC plane. but I already had the hand-eye coordination from computer sims.

Hey if you do get into it and have any questions during building or flying it feel free to PM me and I'll help all I can..Check your local area, they are bound to have a flying club..they an help a lot also.
