I'm going @ end of the month. I'm curious for your experiences. I've been all thru the Carribbean and never used/needed a handler except for Trinidad. Of course the pax pay charges so if a handler is prudent I'll get one. Do I need one? Also, I'm planning to stay @ the Intercontinental. Any other recommendations? I like fishing and golfing so I'll be in heaven. Any recs for a fishing charter?

Here's my Cabo quicklist, I'm assuming you want to be within walking distance of the nightlife.....

If you want a reasonable hotel around $50-75 night try the Mar De Cortez downtown by the harbor on Lazero Cardenas St. It's clean, well run and has a killer hangover curing breakfast every morning. A local gringo favorite. You also can walk to all the nighttime hot spots from the hotel so that's a bonus.

If you like the big tourist type hotels take your pick from Hotel Hacienda, Hotel Costa Real (on the docks overlooking the harbor), or the Medano Beach Resort. They are all typical tourist traps and more of a "sterile mexico experience".

As far a fishing goes head up to Los Cabos area or if you have the time head up to Los Barriles or Buena Vista. The Hotel Rancho Leonero and Hotel Punta Colorada(south of Buena Vista) has some great boat captains and they cater to serious fisherman. If you are really serious about getting into some good fishing take the 1 1/2hr drive north and book something out of one of those two. The captains that run the pangas and cruisers out of Cabo are used to the tourists that don't know much about fishing and they end up taking you for more of a boat ride than anything. They'll take you trolling for about an hour and then try to get you a few bottom fish so you can say you caught something and then head for the docks early to catch a siesta.

Anyways that should get you started. You can do an internet seach on any of these hotels and they should have websites. Check out www.loscabosguide.com and www.allaboutcabo.com for maps of the areas I'm talking about.

BTW.....You don't need a handler in Cabo. It's pretty straight forward and they will walk you through the process with international sign language if you don't speak much spanish. Bring some small bills for tips, they will be needed and expected. Think $5 per paperwork stamp........ you'll get ALOT of stamps. Show up early on the day of departure if it's a busy weekend and the ramp is full. If you are flying a midsized jet or smaller they will bury your airplane ten deep to make room for the larger equipment and it sometimes takes a while to get it out of the back of the pile. All in all, it's a pretty painless experience. Don't forget your cans of prist if you require them.

I just went to Cabo a couple of weeks ago and found a great handler. It's true in Cabo you normally do not need one, it is very straight forward. But for $375 you can call this guy directly, fax him all your info and he will have all your paperwork ready when you arrive. This makes is great for the passengers, they won't even check their passports. He will get you a great deal at a nice hotel and when you leave he will finish the paperwork and have your flight plan ready. I think its worth it. If you want his number send me an email directly.
